India Palace — Restaurant in Montgomery

I've been to India Palace for dinner at least 3 times now, and every time I go I kick myself for not eating there more often. The food is just....awesome. Everything I've had there has been incredibly flavorful and well-presented in their unique serving dishes. I got the Kadai Paneer, and my wife got one of the lamb dishes. Both were excellent. We also ordered fresh-baked naan bread as an appetizer which was delicious. The service was great, and our food came out in a timely manner and was nice and hot (served with rice on the side). Speaking of hot, they asked us each how spicy we wanted our dishes on a scale of 1-10. I said 4 and my wife said 2, but they seemed to be about the same spiciness level to us. We were both fine with the spiciness level. I suggest starting on the low end and then work your way up once you're familiar with how they spice up their food. It was more than enough to fill us up, and we had leftovers for lunch the next day. I've never been to their lunch buffet, but I imagine it's really good as well. This was by far the worse idea I have ever had when it came to visiting a restaurant. The food was subpar at the most, the establishment was not clean nor busy enough for the filth, and the service was discriminating and racist. My wife and I after being seated for over 20 minutes with no service asked to speak with management and then waited 15 minutes before the manager arrived. After explaining that I myself am in the business of restaurant management and don't like to complain but wanted them to know the situation that was going on, the manager cut me off mid speech to say and I quote, " sir I can't get you a server if you don't let me go get one " instead of leaving I tried to enjoy the rest of the date for my anniversary. Another mistake I made. The food was cold, the server had an attitude but did have enough time to tell us how she doesn't make any money there and needs to take care of her kids, and finally we were over charged for items that we didn't receive or order. Unfortunately in my year of coming here, I have found their food quality has dropped in the last couple of months. I used to look forward to enjoying an outstanding spicy lamb korma here - and that dish used to be one of the best I'd experienced in the states. A change in chefs early this year resulted in serving a dish that was nowhere near the superb flavor and texture of their previous version. While I tolerated the lesser version for a few more visits, tonight was the last straw when the new waiter not only did not recognize the dish that I had been ordering for several months there, but after consulting with other staff, came back to tell me that they were actually out of lamb. The silver lining in this is that I paid my bill for my glass of wine and drove another 5 miles outside of the city to discover Bay Leaf Indian Restaurant. While still not quite as tasty as what India Palace used to be - I find it's now the better of the two options...
