I went to Sommerâs Place for the first and last time today. My mother raves about their French onion soup and blueberry crisp.
After a brief wait, weâre seated and provided menus. Our server comes by, doesnât greet us or introduce herself, only says,âWhat can I get you to drink?â She returns a few minutes later with our drinks and takes our order. I got French onion soup and a house salad. When she returned, my mother asked her for an order of blueberry and peach crisp. I did not see either on the menu (this will be important later). Throughout the experience, or server remained cold, but it was lunch, so I gave her grace as I waited tables for nearly a decade and I know how it goes. I finish my salad and soup, and move on to the peach crisp.
One, nothing is crisp about it; call it what it is: cobbler. Second, it has walnuts. Having never been to this restaurant, and not looking at the dessert menu prior to ordering my lunch, I did not see the note several inches below it that said it contains walnuts. I bite into a nut, and immediately spit it into my napkin. I asked her when she walked by if they were walnuts, and stated that I have an allergy. Before she asked if I was okay or wanted anything else, she said,âitâs right there on the menu.â I apologized, having never been there, and she cut me off to say,âare you gonna be okay?â but not in a concerned manner at all. Before I could even say anything, she started listing other options for me, which I said the blueberry would be fine and moved on.
A menu was still on our table, and I looked at it before she came back. Under the platters (meat and two or three) itâs listed above the blueberry crisp, with an asterisk next to it, and two inches below it is the allergen warning. Considering I got soup and a salad, not a platter, and someone else ordered the cobbler for me, she couldâve handled it with half an ounce of compassion.
Catherine C., the food wasnât nearly good enough to support your bad attitude and lack of character. I donât see how you pay your bills on tips, considering you lack any table...
Read moreThe food was unremarkable but not bad. What is dreadful is the service, the seating, and the lack of space.
Our server started with either a fake joke or the worse attitude to do a joke: "Where do you work!?" he barked. When none of us answered â including my mother, who is wheelchair bound â he again loudly demanded, "Where do you work!?" His little rat tail bounced a bit angrily when he blurted it out the second time. None of the people in our party answered, so he went right into his lousy punchline: "How about I come to your work and drop things on the floor?"
This was his introduction. Apparently he thought he was being funny when one of our party asked for a new set of serving ware after accidentally bumping hers and knocking it to the floor. As we didn't want someone with such an attiude getting vindictive with our food â who hasn't heard the horror stories of spit, trash and worse deliberately put in people's food because they felt they were slighted by customers? â we just let it slide.
Little rat-tail man, however, retained his bad attitude.
The food wasn't worth this shit, and the cramped space made this server asshole's attitude all the worse for what we hoped would be a delightful Mother's Day. That this occurred within earshot of other servers means this place will never be recommended by me, never visited by me, and gets one star because there's no "zero...
Read moresommer's place was recommended when I asked about restaurants in the Sturbridge area. Many said sommer's place meat & 3 veg plate was good. I ordered online two plates. Both had hamburger steak ONE SLICE fried green tomato. ONE slice was considered a side order of the dinner. The hamburger steak was a good size, and that's where it ended. Both were burnt, dry as uncooked oatmeal and the juice (no gravy?) did nothing to help the meat. I managed one bite of the hamburger steak, I could not force myself to eat anymore. I ATTEMPTED to feed the two hamburger steaks to my dog, who also turned them down! So into the trash it went. The other side was a blueberry crumble. Sadly, the warm crumble took on the taste of the bowl it came from, so it was tossed to the garbage. Great! I spent $26.98 for 2 each slices of fried tomato! I will take sommer's place off the list for dinner when I'm not able to cook for myself. I'm a disabled veteran who just moved to this area and I can't find my kitchen items, pans, tools and recipes. On 8/5/2021 I tried sommer's place. I was very hungry and hoped I could finally get a meal which would fill my empty stomach. It wasn't to be. I'm going on day 6, with no food. My last meal was on 8/2/21. Thanks for nothing sommer's place. I am isolated because I'm still recovering from COVID. Right now a Milk-Bone looks tasty! But my service dog is giving me...
