Decided last minute to go to Segovia, Moonachie for a date night with my husband. 20 min wait which wasn’t too bad but when we were finally seated, the experience went from bad to worse.

We decided on oysters and the pulpo to start. The food came quick but was underwhelming. At least the bread was warm though. For main course we ordered the skirt steak WITH shrimp and the lamb chops.

Firstly, it seems they’ve expected every dish on an extensive menu to pair with plain rice and bland vegetables. There were also these fried potato chips which was a mandatory side, but did nothing to elevate the plate or the flavors at all. We requested meat at medium temp - the lamb looked like it was seared for 1 min on both sides and dropped on the plate. Inside each chop, red, bloody…totally uncooked, not a hint of salt, pepper, seasoning….nothing. The steak was dripping blood and ridiculously chewy. It amazed us that at the very least they didn’t think to add basic salt and pepper to the meat or anything else on the plate. We waited for the shrimp that never came and when we asked the waiter if it was coming as a side, he smiled and said he never put in for shrimp, but we got a full strip of steak. My husband and I looked at each other, we were so confused by what that meant. We weren’t offered an apology, or to still get the shrimp even though we were asking for it. In the end, we couldn’t eat the raw meat and asked the waiter if they could cook both the lamb and steak some more. He took the plates back but when he returned, two out of 3 lamb chops were cooked some more. The other was still raw inside. My husband’s plate came back with 2 fried shrimp.

We tried to make the most of it, but in the end the buss boy took full plates of food from our table after hovering over us from the time the apps were dropped off.

Totally disappointed and hungry, we asked for the check. The waiter quickly dropped it on the table and we just wanted to pay and leave, so we dropped a credit card on the tray as he set it down. The waiter grabbed it up, then came back to the table AFTER swiping the card to say he gave us the wrong bill. Here we were thinking they saw how disgusted we were with the food and at least comped the main course meals that essentially went from kitchen to table to garbage.

The horrible service topped off the worse meal we’ve had. Recommending this place would be doing an injustice to the community. DON’T EVEN BOTHER WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. For what we ordered at approximately $40 a plate, you’d expect to at least get what you ordered and be able to enjoy at least one thing...

Every year we take my mother-in-law to this place to celebrate her birthday for the past 14 years. Yesterday will be the last time we visit this location.

Shrimp in garlic oil appetizer tasted like the shrimp were cooked separately and then tossed in the hot oil when plated, the garlic flavor was not thoroughly through the shrimp as it was in the past.

The bread basket tasted like the bread was reheated as once the warmth left the bread, it became stale tasting.

My mother-in-law and father-in-law ordered the surf and turf with the meat cooked medium rare, I ordered the 16 oz ribeye black and blue, my wife ordered the shrimp in green sauce.

We wait almost 1 hour for entrées. My wife's shrimp comes out a little blandly seasoned but otherwise perfect. My steak arrives medium well, no pink in the center and looks smaller than 16 oz, more like 10 oz. My father-in-law's lobster tail arrives tasting odd and an unusual hue like it was freezer burned, though the steak was cooked correctly. My mother-in-law's filet mignon arrived well done while her lobster tail looked and tasted perfect.

After 10 minutes of waiting for our waiter to come by, we send back the poorly cooked food. 30 minutes later we get our replacements. My mother-in-law's meat comes back barely pink in the center. My father-in-law's lobster tail comes back over cooked. My steak comes back medium rare, smaller than the previous one by 10%, and with a 2-1/2 inch diameter round plainly visible pocket of fat in the steak. We tell the waiter it's still not right.

I show him my fat, father-in-law shows the overcooked tail. We say we're hungry after all this wait, it's still not right, but it's not reasonable to wait for a third attempt so we are eating it. No attempt by management to make it right. My wife had half her shrimp packed up. I had my fat, bone and 1/4 of the overdone meat packed up to give to my dogs. In-laws pack up their sides, we pay the bill (no attempt to credit or discount anything).

Wife and I get home, I unpack my meat to give to the dogs and refrigerate the shrimp. Outside of the 2 containers in the bag are 2 individual shrimp. How does that reasonably happen at restaurant charging those prices? This was like the ultimate middle finger of dining out experiences, we will...

My wife and I were hungry and decided to stop in to grab some dinner. The wait wasn’t that bad for a Saturday evening. We were watching the menu while we waited to be seated. They had many amazing choices to choose from. We were seated and our waiter came over and took our order, we place the Tapas and Main course at the same time because we already reviewed the menu while we were waiting to be seated. We ordered some Oysters and the octopus appetizer ( which tasted really good). For the main course, my wife ordered the Lamb chops (Medium) and I SPECIFICALLY ordered the Skirt steak (Medium) and jumbo shrimp. The appetizers came and everything was good, Then came in the main course which looked appealing to the eye. My wife started to cut her lamb chops and discovered her lamb chops were still raw on the inside, then I started cutting my skirt steak and to behold it was raw as well. We sent both back to get cooked more. In sending my skirt steak, we asked about the “Jumbo Shrimp” that I ordered with my meal and the waiter smiled and said I only heard skirt steak and not shrimp and thats why you got a bigger piece of steak. He brought it back with 2 pieces of shrimp, he didn’t even apologize for NOT HEARING me. I asked my wife if I ordered the steak and jumbo shrimp and she confirmed that I did. We got back our food and my wife didn’t even eat her food because it was the most tasteless lamb chop we’ve ever had in our LIFE. My steak was decent could’ve been better but at this point we’ve had enough and was ready to pay the bill and leave. We asked for the check and he brought it, we gave him the card and he takes it back but when he comes back he tells us: Oh, I gave you the wrong bill and proceeds to hand us our receipt that he swiped our card already before us even reviewing the new bill. I will never return to this place, horrible food...

If you are in the mood for Spanish Food, you need to visit this family owned authentic Spanish Restaurant called Segovia Restaurant. Came in on a Sunday at around 1 for my FIL’s birthday celebration. On the weekend, there is no lunch menu. There are also no reservations for lunch, but it was fine because there were only four of us, and it wasn’t too packed at that time. For drinks, we ordered a pitcher of the white sangria ($40, I believe?). This was pretty terrible and not worth it. It was mainly sugar and cheap wine, and had a weird after taste. I would recommend skipping this. Luckily, the food was a lot better. For apps, we had the mixed hot appetizers for 4 (shrimp in garlic, chorizo, and fried calamari). The shrimp was pretty small. You could tell it was from frozen, but the flavor was good. The chorizo was probably the best out of the trio. Calamari was a bit lackluster. Entrees come with your choice of salad or soup of the day. I went with the soup, which was some kind of chicken, bean, and potato soup. Nothing special but pretty filling. For the main, I had the lobster ravioli with shrimp in vodka sauce. I didn’t taste much lobster but I loved the sauce. It’s probably so bad for you since things that taste good usually are, but I probably could have swam in the sauce. My in-laws had the paella Valencia and the lobster fra diavolo and both came with ample amounts of seafood. Hubby had the filet mignon, which was meh. It came with a side of stale chips and frozen veggies. We all had some leftovers to bring home but overall, it was pretty pricey meal. I probably wouldn’t come back but I’m glad my in-laws seemed to enjoy the experience.

It doesn't get more classic than Segovia. Like many small family businesses, the service is not top notch. The food's going to get to your table hot, but don't expect a smile and don't expect to be doded upon. Most drink orders are hollered at the backs of waiters walking in the opposite direction. But what are you going to do? Fire Uncle Nick? No. Having said all that, the food is absolutely outstanding every single time I've been here. If you want your pasta al dente, ask for it. And if you want the best pork chops that I have ever tasted in my life, order the ones with the hot cherry peppers. I've never been to a restaurant that didn't overcook pork, but Segovia stands alone in this category. The seafood fra diavolo is also exceptional. One very strong word of warning. In other restaurants, the word tapas refers to very small plates with little bites of food. Normally, it's a quarter cup of whatever you ordered. At Segovia, the tapas is a full size appetizer. Similarly, all of the entrees are hilariously oversized. You will be taking a bag home with you. Food doesn't come out on dishes, it comes out on serving platters. It's incredible. I couldn't love this place more. UPDATE: Do you see the first photo I posted with a quart of sauce, some scraps of seabass trimmings, and small, cheap shrimp? That is the Chilean Seabass and it is a $50 dish. It is criminal. Every other photo was was from a different evening... and amazing.
