On a positive note, the restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly but that is where it ends. I have eaten here in the past, in August 2017, and I had no complaints that time. In fact, that is why I returned.
Our lunch was a major disappointment. As stated above, the meat was dry. We had brisket, sausage, chicken and ribs. My grandson was the first to point out that he could not eat his food because the BBQ sauce was so bad. By the time the rest of us in our party took a bite of our ribs, we could not even eat them either because there was so much vinegar in the sauce. We tried a different type of sauce and had the same issue.
Because the meat was so dry we needed some type of sauce on it but even the sauce was bad. The baked beans were runny and had too much vinegar.
My granddaughter's chicken strips were very dry and she could not finish them, either. The sausage was small and no flavor.
When our waitress asked us how our food was, we informed her and all she said was that she was sorry. As I read through the reviews prior to writing about our own dining experience, I noted the consensus of others who also complained of dry, tasteless meat. And what baffles me the most is the response of the staff of prior complaints........we are sorry but we hope you come back and try us again. Apparently, this is not an isolated incident.
I hope this review gains the attention of the owners and staff and they will take steps in the immediate future to solve the issues that not only I myself...
Read moreAbsolutely dreadful. 2 stars on the service because while the lady taking care of our table was awesome, we were charged 50 cents each for pickles (and didn't get them) when pickles were free on the relish bar.
On to the food. At least for our meals, the other pictures here were lies. None of the meats had ever seen a smoker. 1% smoke ring. Oven baked only. The potato salad was loaded with preservatives, which 1 of our party is allergic. The baked beans were pork and beans only. The pinto beans were canned and had a strange taste. The collard greens were good. The pulled pork was, mostly, big globs of fat. The apple pie and banana pudding were not edible. Apple pie, dry but the crust was gooey. Sounds impossible, but true. The banana pudding was artificial banana pudding with brown, slimy bananas.
Even though the parking lot was packed, I don't know where all the people were. The restaurant was very empty. There's a reason why there weren't many customers at 6:45.
There is absolutely nothing that would get me to try again. At $30+ per person, this was an expensive lesson to learn.
We were at the Moore location. Learn from our mistake. We paid so you...
Read moreI recently stopped at Van’s in Moore for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. My friend Jake L. was with me. Jake and I are bbq aficionados. There are ALOT of bbq options in the Oklahoma, north Texas, Arkansas and southwest Missouri area. Jake L. And I have had the Q from many of them. There have been many times when we walk out of an eatery and Jake L. announces something like “that’s the first and last time I will eat there” or “that was just like mother used to make, except she didn’t defecate in it!”. Jake is a funny guy, but was serious when he said that Van’s is some of the best bbq in Oklahoma. Quick and very friendly service from our attendant Hannah made our meal enjoyable from a service perspective. The food was great. The fixings were awesome! Have you not had Van’s relish on your pulled pork? You haven’t lived!!! The restaurant is decorated with fun and unique items that tell the story of a family that has loved bbq and loved Oklahoma for years. We will be back. You should go for your bbq and then go back to the counter for the carrot cake. You...
