I’ve eaten at Amiche with my family a few times now and I wanted to get a real taste for the food before leaving my review. I’m giving three stars for my high expectations for quality Italian food that this restaurant doesn’t meet and an additional star for quality of service and hospitality.
Cod sandwich: fish smelled very “fishy” (old) very dry, not much flavor. Lemon pepper salmon: salmon was cooked nice to the medium I asked for but the lemon pepper seasoning is overpowering and overwhelms the palette, taking away from any other flavors on the plate. Seasoning tasted very artificial with no fresh herbs in seasoning. Vegetables were fresh but lacked seasoning or was overwhelmed from the lemon seasoning. Eggplant parmigiana: (I’ve had this twice) served over linguine and flash fried eggplant..overall very flavorful, eggplant tastes fresh and sauces are flavorful and vibrant. For not being baked in the oven like traditional eggplant parm, this is a very good restaurant option that’s able to be cooked quickly and served with maximum flavor. If you like eggplant, or even if you don’t, definitely recommend giving it a try. Marinara is excellent. Chicken Piccata: not a fan at all. Traditional chicken piccata is served with very thin, tender, breaded chicken. The chicken in this dish is thick cut and not tender. It is fried chicken on top of linguine in a thick, gel-like lemon sauce. The sauce did not taste house made. I could be wrong, but it had a very weird, slimy, thick texture and the taste was not like any piccata sauce I’ve ever had before. I was not a fan. I let my server know this and she promptly offered me something else to try on the menu.. as I said.service has been top notch every time we have gone. Penne with vodka sauce: my husbands favorite dish, flavorful vodka sauce and always well cooked pasta. Beef filet Marsala: beef was served in the Marsala sauce with mushrooms and ravioli's..my daughter got this dish and loved it. The beef was cooked well, seasoned good. Raviolis seemed to be made in house but not sure of this. I wish they would serve homemade pasta! It would take this restaurant up a level for sure. Overall this is a good family restaurant that uses mostly fresh ingredients and has a good staff with a caring owner. With some minor alterations to menu, this has the potential to be five stars.
*disclaimer: I’m Italian and grew up eating very good homemade Italian food. I also know how to cook a lot of Italian dishes so my expectations are higher anytime going into an...
Read moreI've been here 1.5 times. The ".5" time was when my wife had lunch with her friends and brought half of her wrap home for me. It was very good.
We went last week to celebrate our anniversary. It was my first time eating there. Here is my review and the reason for only 3 stars:
Food: Very good. I ordered the baked ravioli. My only complaint (and it's very minor) was that they put the small, finger sized piece of bread in a part of the plate where the watery part of the sauce got to it. No biggie at all. My wife ordered the Pesto pasta dish and that was kind of bland and didn't taste very special at all. I would suggest avoiding the desserts. The chocolate cake had excellent mousse but the cake seemed like a grocery store Betty Crocker box that wasn't made properly. It was very dry as was my tiramisu. They looked very tempting in the glass diner like display case that was very prominent when you first walk in but judging by how they were already in fitted plastic boxes, they probably buy them from a 3rd party and we had the misfortune of ending up with the stale ones (it was a Sunday and they're closed on Mondays so that's probably the reason).
Atmosphere and ambiance: this is what dragged their rating way down. The prices and decor gives the impression of being high end. However, the tables and full view of the kitchen from most of the dining room gave off the impression of a diner, not a fine restaurant. Speaking of the tables, they were a hard white slab with no tablecloth and had a pizza store type grated cheese dispenser and cheap salt and pepper shakers and nothing else. They should have just put the old stainless napkin dispenser on the table too since they use paper napkins. All in all it was like there was a war between fine dining and noisy pizza shop where the bulk of the pizza business is take-out. Sorry if I seem picky but they have a near $40 item on their menu so I expect more.
Speaking of noise, oh man, it was horribly loud inside. I don't usually do this but when I realized we had to literally shout to have any kind of conversation, I used my phone app to measure and the noise level averaged 80db with peaks over 85db. Hearing loss begins at 90 decibels. This alone will keep us from going back unless it's for a quick lunch outside, where...
Read moreMixed reviews from Friends had us trying Mi Amiche ourselves. Everything on its surface suggested it should be great - interesting menu with creative options, friendly staff, and positive reviews.
Unfortunately, our experience Sunday 8/1 was average and not worth the cost.
20 minutes was expected and aligned with expectations set when we arrived for Brunch at 11.
Server was extremely kind, gave recommendations, and helped my wife with Allergy questions.
However, the kitchen does not appear to have the experience or space yet to handle Sunday brunch. We placed our order at 11:25 and did not get our food until 12:18. From 11:25 to 11:40 the waitress came by regularly and gave updates. Post 11:40, it was that awkward point in the relationship where things were taking longer than necessary. She brought us our butter and syrup around the noon mark, thinking great - coming soon! Nope. Still another 18 minutes.
We ordered the French toast, kids pancakes, kids eggs, and a hash brown bowl. Not a complicated breakfast order.
The kids enjoyed their food, which was nice as it’s difficult to please kids.
My French toast was a giant piece of challah, which had great curb appeal but fell a little flat for the $11 price tag.
My wife got a scramble that suggested avocado, spinach, meat, eggs, and potatoes and consisted mainly of potatoes with only a thin slice of avocados and a piece of spinach. Additionally, we asked for scrambled eggs and it still came with over easy, so had to send back taking my wife’s meal to the 12:23 mark. My wife asked for some extra avocado as well since it was lacking in the main course.
All of this added to a $50 meal before tip, including $3 for “side of avocado” that was half an avocado that costs $.99 at the grocery store.
We left at 12:55, 2 hours arrival to departure for breakfast is a bit excessive.
Considering the day and time, My wife and I both agree that another visit at an off time may be warranted - however, from this experience we will not be back for after Church breakfast and would caution anyone who does to set expectations...
