So we tried a lobster corn chowder for our appetizer, the stuffed salmon, shrimp and grits, the duck breast, the chocolate cobbler, and the strawberry cheesecake. The chowder was almost all potatoes with little pieces of lobster chopped and placed on top. The taste was decent but had a slight earthy flavor, and it was a light brown color. We were told the shrimp and grits came with shrimp and peasant sausage. We found out later, after asking another server, there was no peasant sausage in the shrimp and grits. It had a great flavor, but the misinformation detracted from the experience. The stuffed salmon is actually not stuffed. It is served with a crab cake on the side. Our crab cake was actually overcooked on one side, and the vegetable side was burnt in places. The risotto side was quite delicious. The duck breast was ordered medium but actually came out slightly medium rare but was very enjoyable. It was accompanied by a mashed sweet potato, and we subbed out the spinach for asparagus. Both sides went very well with the dish and were cooked perfectly. The chocolate cobbler was a letdown because we were told it was like a brownie, and what we got was nothing like a brownie. The strawberry cheesecake had the essence of strawberry, but there was no visible evidence on strawberries inside the cheesecake. We believe it was made using strawberry extract. However, the taste was very good, along with a spot on texture. Sadly, our experience was reduced because we had to get other waiters to help us out over our assigned waitress, and our waitress gave us wrong information about several disshes. We found out the right information after asking other waiters. The atmosphere was disconjointed in our opinion. It had a nice bar atmosphere, but the menu and waitstaff were more along the lines of a fine dining establishment. We also found the room became kind of muggy and warm when the tables were filled up. This may have been due to not cutting the air conditioning system to a lower temperature to accommodate the...
Read moreMy husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant and we're so glad we did. The reviews are accurate...this place is REALLY good! It was the perfect place to celebrate an anniversary but not too fancy if you happen to stumble upon it dressed with your laid back beach attire, like we did. Either way the staff will welcome you and make you feel like you belong at as this 1898 historic home. The food is well prepared and tastes perfect. We had the Parrot salad, Pimento cheese, Pistachio Encrusted Mahi, Salmon with Crab, Shrimp & Grits, Scallops with Grits, and their Chocolate Cobbler/lava dessert, twice-all of it was AMAZING and all of that food was over the course of two nights bc yes, we came back the very next night! When you find a restaurant with excellent customer service and excellent food, there's NO NEED to go try something different at another place. As a matter of fact, we saw two other parties from the night before return also-it was so funny and it felt like "Cheers"(NORM) for a moment, but THAT should tell you something. I noticed even some locals chatting with the waiters outside and it confirmed that this place is very unique as the wait staff were very sincere in their care for the customers-you can't fake that. We've been to several restaurants over the course of 4 years in the Atlantic Beach/Morehead City area and this is Truly the best place to eat and experience not only excellent food but exceptional service! We will be back and now have a favorite place in Morehead...
Read moreCute little home with rustic countryside cooking. Staff is extremely friendly and attentive but the tables are too close together resulting in two foot distance to the person at the following table. This made me very uncomfortable that people were not spread out. I would recommend ordering beer rather than a glass of wine since the wine was slightly off with a marsala taste. We went with the recommended scallop slider appetizer. It had a huge chunk of bacon with tomato in the centre of a sliced scallop with an Asian inspired tamari glaze. It is not a delicate balance of flavours but closer to farmhouse country cooking which meshed well with the atmosphere even though it was not to my liking. The main plates are HUGE portions, again I was expecting a more refined fine dining experience but it was in line with the other dish. The lamb shank was a massive rustic stew, enough for two. The encrusted mahi was also large, sitting high up on an insane mound of mushy brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. The dish was way too salty so the only flavour on the palate is salt. The creme brulee was also enough for two and was quite pleasant. Although people say it is pricy, every dish is enough for two people! I gave four stars because their wait staff...
