Atchafalaya Cafe — Restaurant in Morgan City

I am very disappointed with my visit. Hostesses both kept asking me, "How many?" When they clearly see I'm alone. Assuming I wanted to sit at the bar, they escorted me towards the back of the restaurant.That's when I asked to sit at empty table 16, which I did. After 5 to 10 minutes with no attention from the several waitress walking by, I walked over to ask the manager who my waitress was because I was being ignored. She personally took my order and cracked her whip, so to say, because service suddenly improved. My cup of shrimp gumbo was way below expectations. The rue was slimy, and the rice inside was soggy. My shrimp plate was also a disappointment. For a seafood restaurant in Cajun Country to serve this plate for 18 dollars should be ashamed of themselves. I've literally had better shrimp at Red Lobster.

I hate throwing out the race card, but I have to mention that the customers and staff were all Caucasian and kept staring at this Latino boy like it was the '60's. As a Latino American, I felt very uncomfortable with this establishment. I was passing by Morgan City on my way home in Houston. I was just hungry and decided this place was a good restaurant with the positive reviews, but don't let the reviews fool you. Stay far away from this...

I had the alligator bites, catfish platter, and bread pudding. For an appetizer, the bites were enough for four people with a tasty side dipping sauce. The platter WAS HUGE!!! Four pieces of fish and a huge helping of fries. I tried the sweet potato fries. Awesome! They were cut correctly; thinner so the fry cooks all the way and doesn't absorb the oil. The bread pudding.... show stopper!! I'm hooked and bread pudding monogamous for life!! The rum sauce was rich and the right balance of sweet and the bread pudding was moist with body and not mush. The wait staff were always smiling and attentive. They had to roll me out I was so full!! I had the best food there while on my trip to Louisiana.

We went on a Thursday night and was told the was a "get together" with live music later that night. It was hoppin and comfy crowded- the right side of partying. I'm not usually interested in country music. Changed my mind after listening to the band performing!! They were very talented, too talented for Morgan City. They even had a member of the audience come up and sing Cajun Creole for a break. I recognized the song he was singing and liked hearing it in a different language.

The portions were way way too small for the price The French fries taste like every basic food Service wholesale French fry that you get at a restaurant (no unique ness no soul, no personality! just short cuts everywhere. The restaurant seemed like it was struggling to stay afloat The waitress was initially attentive then she got a large table after us and basically got completely lost in the stress of it , she mentioned that a large group was coming in . She was so obsessed with the large group that she psyched herself out , and another waitress had to bring us our check . The owner was nice, and the food came out quick. The guy who brought it out , He seemed proud of the food he was presenting. But he shouldn’t have been…The catfish was really good everything else was a 6/10 the portions are a joke

Why is there a guy bringing us our food, isn’t that the job of a waitress?talk about poor labor management
