Grasshopper off the Green — Restaurant in Morristown

I first came here a year ago in June for the first time for Tuesday karaoke with two good friends of mine and then last September came back with two of the same friends before my one friend moved to Ohio and I would continue to come by myself for karaoke Tuesdays after he moved and I indeed have had good times and met new/great people. That doesn’t mean I’ve had all positive times as I have had a lot of issues trying to order a drink or food and the bartenders just don’t acknowledge and need to have better attitude and service towards others. This one bartender that acts all whatever and everything and like he hates his job cause he works all day and night Paul, who had no right to one time judge me over how I would always come by myself and have no one to talk to and how I never tip and just sit at the bar and stare at people. I think he’s someone who should not have anyone serve anything from him. I also try to indeed interact and have conversations with people whether it’s meeting new people or people I already know. During karaoke it is always very loud were it’s hard to here. I try to be friendly and want to talk to people but no one will talk to me unless I do so, but when I tried talking to these girls it was so loud so they couldn’t hear me and they acted like they didn’t know what I was talking about, like I’m not speaking English so I got pissed off and stormed right out of the bar. I’ve especially have read a few bad reviews about Grasshopper for all these reasons so this will certainly do it. I’ve read bad reviews that had to do with the bouncer and it must be that same bouncer who I did have a problem with when he started confronting me in a aggressive way about how I was feeling when I got pissed and this same bouncer literally always let’s me in cause at a point he would know me where I’ve been a regular. He also always just sits there and just stares in a certain direction and does nothing. They need to have better staff for bartenders and bouncers that know how to treat people with respect. Overall, I haven’t been coming back since that day in June I last came, so it’s been over a month and I have not wanted or had any feeling to come back after what happened last time with these issues I dealt with! There are other bars out there that I wish had Karaoke nights especially bars in Morristown that are probably a lot better to be at and welcomed at. My friend that moved said after everything I personally told him said to me “I’m sorry Grasshopper lost it’s mojo.” Everything that happened from my last time was just overall...

So on Sunday, May 28, 2023, we decided to meet for drinks and food. Went then decide on this establishment, not sure if they are the same as the other Grasshoppers but never had an issue at the other places so thought we’d enjoy it.

Walked in and sat down. Waiter came over and was grumpy from the moment he walked over to the table. Barely spoke and didn’t greet us. Just said here’s some menus, just place them on the edge of the table when done.

We made our food choices, placed menus near the edge of the table and he walked over. Grumpy once again. Maybe being a Hispanic couple bothered him. Not sure but you would figure that he’d try and earn the tip at least. So we chose to try two different wing flavors, the beer battered onion rings, and a pastrami on rye with fries. He asked if we’d like it all brought together or wings and onion rings ahead. Yes please, wings and onion rings ahead and then the sandwich and fries. Okay he says.

Well three minutes later, all the food comes out and placed on the table. Hmmmm, that’s weird. Three minutes for this? Ok.

Wings looked and tasted as if they were retried and sitting around for a bit. Beer battered onion rings which I’ve had tons of times were not light and golden and crispy. They were dark, drenched in oil, and soggy as if they had been refried several times. The wings weren’t hot at all and again tasted refried.

I hate to make waves when ordering food as we all know we can’t see what the cooks could possibly end up doing to our food. Picked at the food. A beer and a half later we left. Bill paid. Tip included. Stupid me. Should have complained. Worst service and worst food ever. Went home a short while after and was hit with the worst heart burn ever and ended vomiting several times.

Damn shame. Wish i could dispute this with my credit card company.

I had a pretty awful experience with a friend here yesterday. We went in to grab a couple drinks and appetizers. The food really wasn't that good, but the main problem was the bartender. I ordered a drink off the menu (pineapple margarita) with one modification, and my friend also got a drink off the menu (strawberry margarita). Her's was okay, but mine unfortunately really wasn't drinkable, even after putting a bit more pineapple juice in it. The bartender came over to check on us at one point and I said, "I'm really sorry, but is there any way I can send this back? I don't think I like it very much." I was honest and said it in the most kind way possible. He looked at me like I had three heads and was confused at first, then quickly got very passive-aggressive. After about 20 seconds of confusion (I thought I was pretty clear, idk), he told us "well that's just not how it works" in a rude manner and STORMS OFF. My friend and I looked at each other like wtf just happened? Then about 10 seconds later, as he passive-aggressively walks by our table, he says "I'll take it off your check at the end." Well thanks, now you just made us extremely uncomfortable when we didn't even do anything wrong. It's not like we were looking for a free drink, I only drank about 10% of it. We left about 8 minutes later, anxiously waiting for our check. My friend and I felt sick to our stomachs after how we were treated. I understand that you'll meet people like this in life, but a bartender/waiter? When their literal job is to be personable? Seriously? That's just NOT how you treat paying customers, especially people who were as kind as possible about the situation. Maybe I just shouldn't order a margarita at a pub, but it was literally on their menu, so it has to be at least decent, right? Obviously will not be returning, our...
