A gem in Morristown. My wife and I visited Dismal Harmony recently and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The drinks were incredible, and the manager, Robbie, was so friendly and welcoming. Max, the bartender, made fantastic drinks.
The atmosphere is a lot of fun—stylish and cozy with a vintage flair (see pics). It’s eclectic yet refined, the kind of place that feels more like a hip cocktail lounge in downtown NYC or Portland, Oregon than something you'd expect to find in New Jersey.
"Fantastic" barely does justice to the drinks here. The menu has a great selection of classic cocktails but their inventive, handcrafted creations take things to the next level. Take the Fire Pit, for example—a twist on an Old Fashioned with graham turbinado syrup, cocoa bitters, and a hint of cinnamon smoke, topped with a toasted marshmallow. Honestly, it’s one of the best drinks I’ve ever had! I also tried their Espresso Martini (see pic), and it was just as incredible.
The drinks and vibe are so good that you almost forget Dismal Harmony is actually a distillery. They make their own spirits right on-site (see pic), and the quality speaks for itself. You can buy bottles to take home, and their website even has a recipe book with all of their drinks if you want to try making them yourself!
Robbie gave me a quick tour, and I took the attached photo of their copper pot still. He explained how they use it to craft their spirits on-site—definitely cool to see behind the scenes.
I’m so glad we found Dismal Harmony and can’t wait to go back. I highly recommend visiting if you have the chance. Street parking can be a little tricky, but there’s a big municipal lot right behind the place—worth...
Read moreMorris county, you have a gem. Stopped to have a few cocktails and learn more about this unique little distillery. Luckily we met Robby the manager who gave us an in-depth explanation of how the business started and where the cocktail creations came from. All of the drinks were made to order with some incredible stuff on the menu. They have a large variety of their own House made spirits I definitely recommend getting a flight and trying the variation of spirits they make. TEAX was behind the bar slinging Great creations, hey Kelly, happy birthday! Located in the heart of Morristown you're able to order food to the location to extend your stay and enjoy more cocktails. The spot is small but very unique and created well. The bar design definitely took skill and lots of hours. If you're looking for a drink, something you need want to learn a little bit about the history of the liquor. Definitely give...
Read moreTheir spirits are actually very good; however, we were almost overcharged by a significant amount. When we received the check (on a tablet), it was $170, which seemed extremely high. Asking the bartender for the detailed receipt, she kept insisting we complete the payment and then we would be provided the details. We asked several times, but she kept insisting we pay first. After triple checking our math...and demanding for a FOURTH TIME for a detailed receipt, she finally admitted we were "mistakenly overcharged" for an additional drink. In actuality, we were charged for 3 Extra Flights! No remorse, no apologies. I regret leaving any tip. $120 vs $170!
On a positive note, pretty good whiskey and drinks. Very nice place. But a lesson learned to check the bill before handing over the...
