Let me first make clear. The cooks and service are generally AMAZING. This review pertains to several encounters of the worst kind. Unfortunately I cannot remember her name. Seeing as there are several young brown haired girls sporting nose jewelry that could be mistaken for her (until you've had her as your waitress!!HA!) identification of the worst waitress known to man is up to you.
Alehouse: The food is average, the people are average, but the happy hour specials. Fantastic. It is impossible to beat half-off appetizers and the drink specials (despite how awful your server is)! Now let's go back, back to a time not so long ago.
A time not long ago... I have had had this waitress before. She was nothing special except semi-friendly and upbeat, so I overlooked her dullness. Doing a slightly below average job, and having over half of the bill in drinks, I know I did not tip above 10%. With almost a decade of waiting experience in a right to work state, I knew this was cruel. Still, I came in almost every Thursday or Friday and generally tip 20%(depending on service).
The next time she was my server, I was more polite. Figuring if she was positively acknowledged, she would care to be more attentive. Still, her service was the same, checking only on a long empty glass and offering conversation only a lobotomized monkey would up-stand. Financially, I was on the up and up; so, despite the performance, I tipped 15%. 15% was no longer worthy the service offered, still, I knew how it was to serve day after day and could tip no lower.
As the cliche goes, there is a first time for everything. The twelfth of March, 2015, was the first (and I hope the last) time I ever shall tip near nothing. This being the third encounter with the worst server of my life, I was prepared to be disappointed. Little did I know, she would be the worst server I have met to this day (I do pity the soul who has had it worse).
I do not want to get into the gritty details, anyone who has had bad service can think of why this woman was terrible. I would say many whom have served would understand as well. She seldom came to the table, she was rude as conversation was struck, and she actually walked out of the bar to complain about her tip.
Yes! she walked out to tell me she was unsatisfied with her tip. As I go to leave, my server walks out, clears her throat and she says 'excuse me'. I stop and politely ask 'yes'? She asks if I realize I tipped $1.50 on a $70 tip. I inform her I tipped $1.50 on a $50 tip. She proceeds to let me know servers in Idaho make $3.30 an hour and anyone who tips so low is an awful person. I am aware and let her know so. She then storms off.
If tonight's server does not understand why she will never again receive a tip from a loyal and good tipping customer, my idea of an idiot has been increased tenfold. I've had servers with flakes of skin falling into my food whom I would prefer to this girl. Enjoy the Alehouse, but if you have a waiter so bad as this, I pity your...
Read moreFirst try; we will definitely be back! Convenient location with parking reserved for the restaurant. You can go in to eat or sit on the deck (there are umbrellas over the tables and bench seating). Right now you need a mask briefly... They checked our temperatures and then we were seated. They were quick to bring us menus and drinks. Not a huge menu but everything on it looks good. Husband had a local brew and really liked it. Ate the huckleberry BBQ burger and said it was delicious. Our daughter had a Caesar salad and enjoyed it. A good sized salad for one. I had their Reuben sandwich and was very happy to find it comes with a true darker rye bread (not dark dark rye, but a decently dark rye). The homemade fries and mozzarella sticks were really good as well. We got full enough that we skipped having dessert (they had cheesecake and a chocolate mousse cake that I want to try next time). Definitely a great place for all ages and fairly good selection for allergies. Noticed that they had noted that you can order a veggie patty instead of a meat patty if that's your preference. Hours might vary for now with covid-19 stuff still going on but you can always call and double check ahead of...
Read moreThis is a favorite place in Moscow for me and my family. The service is always great and the food and drinks are consistently good. We went there with a diverse group yesterday and our server, Shelby, was absolutely outstanding. We all arrived at different times, ordered separately, and even moved to a different table on the patio to keep ourselves in the shade. Shelby accommodated all of our requests, and anticipated things we didn't even ask for, such as refreshed ice water on such a warm day. She was friendly and efficient throughout. Our food and drinks were excellent too.
Update on 6/11/2020 We went there to enjoy the patio on one of the nicer days in this dreary year. Our server was Robby--and he was just excellent. Friendly and aware of when we needed more water or a beverage refill. We ordered the finger steaks and I asked if they had cocktail sauce. He said he would check. When the chef heard the request he said he would make some. Wha?? Many of Moscow's restaurants are typically A+, and the Alehouse is right up there. Thanks for another...
