The Avenue Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Moundsville

I am giving this place a one star review only because I can't give it zero. My family and I were in town for the Wonders Oddities Expo this past Saturday and went in for lunch after seeing photos of the food and overall good reviews thinking it looked like a good place to eat. We went in and saw an alcohol themed sign that said "We serve no one under 21." We assumed it meant alcohol, which obviously we already knew. However, when we got inside and sat down at a table, the waitress walks up and without even greeting us said "Is everyone here 21?" My cousin had her 13 year old daughter with her, so we said everyone but her, thinking she was going to give us drink menus or something. Instead, she says very rudely, "She can't be in here, so you all need to leave." My cousin then asked, "How do you all call yourselves a grill if you can't come in just to eat?" And the waitress says, "We have slot machines in the other room, so she can't be in here. Sorry, I don't make the rules" then walks away. Mind you we couldn't even see slot machines from where we were sitting, nor did we have any intentions of playing them. The 13 year old was no where near them. So what we thought was going to be a good lunch, turned into a bad experience. Never in my entire life have I been kicked out of a store or restaurant. The waitress could have just explained it to us without the attitude or they need to be more clear with their signage at the entrance. So instead we went to the Prima Marina and had a great lunch, friendly staff, and a beautiful view of the river. I highly recommend them. My husband and I love the Avenue and we’ve usually always had the same couple girls when we go in there to eat… I called an order in today to go and was treated poorly from the time I called until I picked up my food. I called at 12:45 they open at 1. I about got hung up on bc I said I wanted to place an order for pick up and then explained I knew they didn’t open until 1 and it was fine. She told me 1:30. Ok great no problem. I come inside sit at the bar and she asks what she can do for me and I stated I was there to pick up an order and the cook very rudely responds well it’s going to be another 20 minutes. Ok that’s fine I’ll wait. The whole time I’m waiting the cook is slamming things and huffing and puffing acting like this is an inconvenience to her. Remind me to only come on Friday evenings when they nice ones work that don’t mind...

Me and my friend are new to the area and we got Spicy Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings, the Bacon Cheeseburger, Smoky Mozzarella Fries, and the Raspberry Chimichangas for dessert. Everything was great! The best burger I’ve had in years! It was seasoned, tender, and juicy. The bun was grilled & crispy on the inside but soft on the outside & buttery! They left off my lettuce, onion, tomato so all I had was bacon, cheese, and condiments I requested. But it was still good. My friend got the wings and they were a little undercooked to me. I like mine more on the crispy side but she enjoyed them. The mozz fries were great and so was dessert! I’ll probably be coming back tomorrow just for the raspberry chimichanga! It was warm, sweet, and very filling. Definitely will be back...
