We recently stopped at Jimmie Cone in Mt Airy, Maryland for an ice cream treat. What a disappointment. Total spent in Cash was $24.99. A receipt was not provided, and credit cards are not accepted.

At Jimmie Cone, two (2) in our group of 4 opted for ice cream cones with jimmies; jimmies=sprinkles. Small flurry, soft serve cookie dough and Oreo. Comment: tasted bad, unable to finish, $4.10 Sugar cone soft serve twist with chocolate & vanilla, with jimmies, $3.72 Sugar cone soft serve twist with strawberry and vanilla, with jimmies, $3.72 Comment: strawberry tasted like cough syrup; threw away. The 4th person chose: Hot Fudge Cake Boat, $7.50 Comment: overall bad experience, tossed in bin ... So, using basic/simple math: $24.99 - 7.50 = $17.49 $17.49 - 4.10 = $13.39 $13.39 - 3.72 = $9.67 $9.67 - 3.72 = $5.95. (So, where did my $5.95 go?) The staff did not return these monies to me. Cash is the ONLY accepted method of Payment.

So, using basic/simple math: $23.94 = $3.99 x 6 containers of real Ice Cream, which happens to be more than $1.00 ( one dollar ) less than what we spent for the Less Than Enjoyable experience we suffered through @JimmieCone. No, we will not visit again, ever.

The next time we go by Jimmie Cone will be on our way to Giant Eagle to pick up Market Basket Ice Cream, the Giant Eagle brand...

May 17, 2022 - If you live in Mt. Airy ( or Damascus) here’s a fun tradition from spring to fall . . . family & friends standing in line for the best SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM!

Started by owner Bill Harris in 1962. I remember in the 70’s cruising, as a newly licensed teenager driver, up to Damascus! Later in the 90’s moving to Mt. Airy, my wife & I would drive our young daughters to the new Jimmie Cone ! Yea!

Back then, Jimmie Cone offered hot dogs and other fast food delights on their menu. Seems the menu is slimmed down to ice cream choices:

Banana Splits Milk Shakes Soft Ice Cream in cups or cones Floats Flurries Sundaes Malts Snowballs Ice Cream Cakes

Fat Free available Sugar Free available

I like the Community Board, with posted events happening in the area! There’s a Cruise Night each 1st & 3rd Saturday night in My. Airy . . . Mostly antique cars in perfect condition ! Owners sitting in their chairs, willing to share their “ stories” , usually with the car hood up, showing off their pride & joy to all !

My only concern is a “no frills” business model, that is at the end of a shopping mall parking lot, with No Bathrooms! I rate this a 4.6 . . . but I know it’s SPRING when Jimmie Cone opens ! Pack up your family and dog and head to Jimmie Cone for an ice cream twist with chocolate or rainbow sprinkles/Jimmie’s on top! 🍦

Note: Dan & Bonnie Leiter purchased Jimmie Cone in 1990, opened the Mt. Airy location in 1997 ( ?) Keep the Jimmie Cone Tradition going. ....
