What an AWESOME find in Mt. Horeb!!!! We were in town for the art festival and by noon were ready to find some food! We are pretty health conscious and we never found a lot of good options in that town that cater to this lifestyle. We passed by the Sunn Cafe and decided to give it a try. OMG! Totally a new favorite place!!!! First off, it was a Sunday (they are usually closed) but they were open for the busy weekend (thank you!). When we walked in it was PACKED! I thought, "uh-oh...I better have a third and fourth back up option for food..." A young girl spotted us (we must have looked confused), greeted us with a big smile and gave us menus. Told us to find a table and order at the counter...the line was nearly to the door...when we got to the front the lady at the cash register was still just as pleasant as if we were her first customer of the day. If she was dying on the I side whe never let it show LOL. Their drink fridge stayed stocked with the best (and healthiest!) drink options, I ordered the summer salad special with fresh organic blueberries (which I was certain would be sold out), but they had everything we wanted! The service clearing tables and delivering food were just as friendly and that line to the door never stopped. So KUDOS to them for keeping an extremely friendly demeanor in the midst of all the chaos, for having enough on hand to not run out of things and disappoint customers and for offering delicious healthy (and largely organic!) options! You guys are the top of your class! We will...
Read moreI ordered the egg with bacon sandwich. Expecting actual bacon on it like other places have. It only had mayo and those cheap little Bacon Bits on it!! For the money it cost expected real bacon! Disappointing taste!
I told one of the two owners (NOT the nicer woman who I had met on my first visit and who told me it was OK for me to order the breakfast sandwich anytime. But the other woman, with less customer service skills) about it and also let her know the WHOLE 3+ MINUTES that I was ordering my food, the worker was scratching his beard and pulling on the hair in his beard NONSTOP! GROSS!!! When I told him he had been doing that, he said he did not even realize he was doing that. (I later learned he sometimes works in the kitchen making salad ingredients & other things. GROSS!!!)
But, instead of caring (or at least pretend to care), or even really listening to me as I was explaining why that is disturbing to a customer, that owner got defensive right away.
Also, I could not get a straight answer from her when I asked her a couple of direct questions. She kept changing her answer every time, and I realized eventually she was just lying in her responses to me.
I think that she needs to learn how to be more honest and customer service skills. And then train her staff on these skills and on proper etiquette when working in a restaurant around food and with customers.
Maybe the other owner can train her on...
Read moreIt was my first business trip to Mr. Horeb and the wonderful folks at Duluth Trading recommended Sunn Cafe. I was not disappointed!
It was only a few minutes before closing time and I expected to be turned away, but the very friendly staff welcomed me to enjoy a late lunch. I ordered the tomato soup and "The Bomb" sandwich. Both were excellent!
The soup was very good, but the in-store made fresh croutons made this simple dish a must-have. The croutons were fresh, had a soft crunch and added a certain savoriness to the soup. Really delicious. "The Bomb" was equally as good. Ingredients were fresh, as one would desire, and the 9-grain toasted bread in combination with a dash of jalopeno's was one of the best I've had in a long time.
I hope to visit Mr. Horeb again soon. Will definitely make another stop at Sunn Cafe!! Thank you again for...
