I honestly don't know where the rave reviews come from...I don't like to knock a business but as a consumer I also depend on honest reviews. My husband and I discovered Brix on a recent day trip to Mt. Horeb...we stayed later than planned just to be there when they opened at 4 pm. My husband LOVES cider, we live in Ireland part of the year and he drinks cider every chance he gets and loves trying new ones all over the place. It was hot that day and we couldn't wait to sink in to a nice flight of cold delicious cider. First, we were a bit surprised with the interior when the exterior had a cool industrial feel. The inside felt like an ice cream parlor catering to small children. We went up to place our order and the cider names were written in marker on the pour taps...which, whatever. We each chose 4 ciders for our flights and took a seat...I took the first sip of mine and LITERALLY had to spit it back in the glass. I couldn't drink it! Same with the next three. One sip and done. Same with my husband. We left all eight ciders literally untouched on the table and walked out. I've never had all the ciders in two flights be undrinkable. So that was $22 down the drain and a tremendous disappointment. We found another cidery in Madison and in speaking with others who have been here they felt the same about the ciders....so, do as you wish, but I couldn't not post a review. We will...
Read moreUnfortunately we can’t give this place a good review 🥺 my family is local and had never tried it here before. We were all very excited about the fresh food concept! We arrived and ordered at 6:18pm. It wasn’t too busy and most people who were there already had their food. We have a 2 year old who got a quesadilla, my husband ordered the beet and blue salad, I got the vegan mushroom sandwich with cider soup, and my mom got the mushroom and Swiss burger. 7:18pm rolled around and we still didn’t have any food. The two year old could have at least got his food in this amount of time. He was getting restless at this point and I had to ask where our food was. About 10 min later the food finally came out. The beet and blue salad didn’t have any blue cheese on it. The mushroom sandwich was really spicy, and not much to it for $15. The cider soup was really good and so was the mushroom Swiss burger. It unfortunately was Not worth the long wait. The woman working behind the counter did bring us 2 cookies out, but there were 4 of us so that really wasnt necessary Also, she said she would be refunding the salad because of it not having the cheese. We won’t know if that was refunded until it...
Read moreMy family and I stopped in for lunch while walking the Mt Horeb art fair and my daughter recognized a girl from her kindergarten class whose parents were already there. they played at the kids play area which has a wooden train track set and playhouse while I ordered lunch and a flight of cider. There's a lot to choose from so I asked the bartender to choose by asking for "2 dry, 1 sweet and 1 weird". They were all well executed though in mind the weirdest one was the hoppy cider. The Macoun cider (aka the weird one) was my favorite; a semi dry cider that just popped with flavor.
The food was good - far better than you'd normally get in your average brewpub. My wife had the grown up grilled cheese with caramelized onions with greens & tahini ($9) and I had the fish tacos ($12). The Gouda on the grilled cheese was mild and flavorful, though half of it oozed out. The Cress Spring bread is to die for. I expected my fish tacos to be a fried filet but was pleasantly surprised to find out it was smoked and chunked instead. The tacos were huge and a side was unnecessary. The food on the menu is not cheap but to do legit farm-to-table like they're doing costs money and it's...
