Went here on a date last night. The menu looked good and the salsa was decent. Chips seemed a little hard and stale. The servers where super young teens/kids. Like 15 and painfully awkward but sweet and were doing their best.
Now the food. I got the enchiladas con mole. I'm from California and know good mole and this was not good mole. I don't even know if it was mole? It was not a thick dark red sauce with lots of deep flavor. It was a think and water like tomato salsa? No flavor. Was mostly water. I asked for no rice, just beans. The beans were also super watery and no flavor. My meal was soggy and luke warm and had no flavor. I had two bites and was done. It was also a $13-$14 dollar dish. Overpriced and really gross. I've had better mole at La Hacienda and they are hardly authentic.
I should've said something about the food but it was a first date and ugh I just would've felt too bad for the teen server lol.
My date got tacos and thought they were pretty good.
Nothing different or authentic. Was...
Read moreIf I could give this place more stars, I would. Chips. Freshly fried, crisp, and just a little thick. Salsa. Amazing. Guacamole. Amazing. I smashed those before, I thought to even take pictures. Apologies. I had birria tacos. Absolutely freaking delicious. The soup to dip them in... sigh... and that's a very heavenly sigh... my mother had the bistek with chicken. I tried hers also, and I swear to God, that's the most tender and juicy chicken I've ever had in my life! I also ordered a side of rice and beans. Both are awesome. This place wasn't overpriced. I love Mexican food, but this here is on a whole other level, y'all! Best I've ever had hands down! The food was just... you need to go find out. That's all I can say.
Every time I come visit my mother, who lives in Goose Creek, we make at least one trip to Carmen y Juan. ALWAYS DELICIOUS. Today was no different.
Back again and delicious as always! Mother had the Bistek, and I the...
Read moreWe loved our food. I got pork carnitas, which were delicious. My husband got mole rojo and he loved it. Good, authentic food. Where it gets bad is when they gave us our bill. It's all written down, which made it hard to verify until after we got home and checked out their menu online. They sneaked in an extra dollar on one of our meals and randomly charged an 11% tax rate. I thought that was extreme, but maybe it's that high in Mt. Pleasant? I checked. It's not. Lastly, I'm fairly positive they charged an extra dollar on the tip we gave them (which we decreased to take into the fact that they were trying to sneak money out of us). It only amounted to about $2-3 extra, which isn't going to break us, but really rubs me the wrong way. I don't know how often they do this, but they sure were sneaky about it. We didn't approach them about it, so maybe if you did, they would fix it, but I really hate that they would even do that in the...
