I'm always hesitant to post comments on a place when it's newly opened but I think this venue does have a lot of potential and will look to make a second visit to see how food/service is compared to last night. I will say upfront I am a jaded NYer that has worked almost my entire career in culinary public relations. I have worked with Food Network chefs, culinary brands, schools and non profits like the James Beard Foundation. I realize I can be a bit biased. The location is very close to our son's school so we wanted to give it a try. Loved the dimly lit feel of the space and the overall vibe. The restaurant was full when we arrived but we were promptly seated. One minor recommendation, the tables along the back end banquette are too close together. I felt like I was actually dining with the couple next to us. We had the "fluffy cheese" and tomato appetizers. Everything tasted delicious/homemade. Only suggestion, maybe put the whipped cheese in a small ramekin, it was a bit too thin for spreading on the plate and seemed to run into the bread. Loved the toasted benne seeds on the tomatoes which tasted farm-fresh. We also ordered a Margherita pizza, which while small (think personal pizza sized) tasted fantastic. Crisp crust, which we loved and the sauce was a teeny bit spicy which was also perfect. We also had the Gnocchi, great flavors, just wished the Gnocchi had a bit more bite/chew. For $26 again the portion was a bit on the small side. Maybe I'd expect the petite size more if we were downtown. We shared a dessert that Lola Rose called Zeppole -- these tasted hot and fresh but do not resemble the fried dough we're used to. Think more donut-munchkin taste/shape and more cake-like, not light airy dough like a traditional Zeppole. The lemon curd that accompanied the dessert was delicious, really perfect, and I even texted my sister (her husband makes Zeps all the time) to add some Lemon curd to the side next time he makes them. The service while friendly/attentive could use a bit more polish/refinement but I could see that improving with time and know the staff is young. All in all a solid meal, not a place for those looking for budget minded basic Italian, but definitely worth a visit (or another...
Read moreI honestly don't understand why this place doesn't get much better reviews then it does. It hands down is the best restaurant in all of North Mt. Pleasant. Great ambiance, friendly staff, innovative cuisine (try finding other restaurants with the creativity of this menu in North Mt pleasant) fantastic cocktails, solid wine list, indoor and outdoor seating, approachable pricing for the quality of the food you're receiving, killer desserts, basically almost everything you would receive from eating at a restaurant downtown but without the high price tag, 25 minute drive, lack of parking, etc that you would get from going downtown. Don't get me wrong there's a time and place for going downtown and the caliber of downtown is of course higher than Lola Rose but it's dang close in some respects and the convenience factor sometimes Trump's the whole process of going downtown. If people don't like this restaurant it just shows the bad taste that all us transplants coming from Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, etc. have in restaurants. It just proves that only the large chain restaurants like mellow mushroom, PF Chang's ,(or mediocre Mexican restaurants) etc thrive in a place like Mt. Pleasant... which is sad. We need more great restaurants like this in North Mt. Pleasant honestly, so please don't listen to the reviews and make a decision for yourself and go have lunch or dinner at Lola Rose and you will see how good it really is. And don't sleep on the pizza, it's fantastic! However the pasta dishes I think could be the star of the show. Get one of each and you won't be...
Read moreI recently dined at Lola Rose and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. My husband and I arrived promptly at 4 PM for an early dinner. As the first guests in the restaurant, we expected a warm welcome and a pleasant dining experience. However, things took an unexpected turn. Despite having made a dining room reservation, the host pointed us to two less-than-ideal options: a two-top table next to the kitchen or another near the bathroom. We politely inquired if we could sit elsewhere, considering the entire dining room was empty. Surprisingly, the host suggested the bar as an alternative. We reluctantly settled in the bar area and proceeded with our meal. As we finished our dinner, we noticed that the entire dining room remained vacant except for one couple seated in a spot that would have been perfectly suitable for us. Additionally, two other patrons were enjoying pizza at the bar. The treatment we received was disappointing, especially considering that Lola Rose primarily serves pizza. It’s disheartening to be treated poorly when we had hoped for a pleasant dining experience. As a result, we won’t be retuning to this establishment. I’m sharing this review in the hope that no other couple encounters the same unwelcome treatment. Every guest deserves respect and consideration, regardless of the type of...
