Whoever the Irish or Scottish man is that is a waiter needs to pack it up & move on. To a mechanic shop perhaps. His entire mood is that of a grumpy hole in the wall mechanic shop employee. Not only was my food $30! For no reason mind you. It was all cold & dry. Chicken for example was a joke. The audacity to charge an additional $5 for that cold unseasoned brisket is theft! But they literally NEVER brought out my wife's single order of a pulled pork sandwich! Yeah y'all know y'all wrong. I ate my food & paid for it though because I have home training. "Home Team" does not! All these "amazing" reviews must be from drunk people or employees/friends of this place btw. Also, it's apparent that the reason that there is no phone number to call on Google isn't due to high call volume for order but rather, from upset spouses & people calling to complain about this dumpsterfire of a restaurant.
Now here's my wife.
Idk if it's because I'm white & my husband is black. Some people are definitely still racist these days so I wouldn't be surprised if our waiter was one of those people. Maybe that contributed to our experience from him. Never smiled at us or anything. Just a thought.
Anyway, couples go out to eat so they can eat together. My barbecue sandwich never came and the sissy irish waiter never came by to tell us it's on the way or it will be late. They give you lukewarm water and never ask if you want ice or come by and ask how the food is. I'm sure he's dreaming of the manager or owner because all that's on his mind must be........ It's definitely not doing his job. If the owner was any decent person he would stop all this madness and fire some people. If I ever get the notion to come up there one day you best believe I'm going to show out like someone you ain't never seen before!
Okay...husband here again...
After cleaning up her words the best I could while keeping her frustration. I hope this set of reviews gets to the right person. That is makes a change to this establishment for the better asap. The locals...
Read more4-27-23 Visiting the area from Arkansas, but wife and I both grew up in the Carolinas. She in upstate SC, I in the foothills of NC, so we both know BBQ. We came to HTBBQ after reading all the good work they do for charities. For that work, 5 stars.
The place was clean and looked well cared for both inside and out. We were seated quickly and brought water (no ice). After we ordered I asked for ice for our water since that was all we were going to drink, and she brought 1 glass.
We both ordered pulled pork platters, wife baked beans and slaw, mine with potato salad and slaw. We got 2 potato salads, 1 slaw, and 1 baked beans. Fine, I let my wife have her correct order and I ate the potato salad because the slaw did not appear to my liking.
The meat itself was ok. There was no smoke taste and no pink that is a mark of smoking pork. Unfortunately, my plate had a large chunk of fat in the meat, about a 3 inch square. We each mixed and matched bbq sauce until we found something we liked, her a mix of Pepper Vinegar and Carolina Mustard, me Red Sweet and Red Hot.
As we finished the waitress left the bill. I looked it over, I found we had already been assessed a credit card transaction fee, but had not yet offered to pay. Not only that, but tax was charged after that fee. I took the bill to the front to pay, where I was told no, I must pay my waitress. We paid cash, so she removed the CC fee, but not the tax that was charged. We left convinced we should have traveled north to one of the small town restaurants in McClellanville rather than south to...
Read moreWent for the first time a week ago. Have been back twice more since then.
A good vibe. A lot of outdoor seating in the backyard, perfect for kids to run around and play. Big screen TV's also in the back yard so you can watch you game. Indoor seating is a little cramped but you have to expect that with all of the people who are here, even during a week night.
The food has been on point each time. We enjoy the smoked wings each time we are there. Their white sauce is better than just plain ranch/blue cheese. Be sure to get some "death sauce" and put a little into the white. Promise you will enjoy.
Had the fried ribs as an app last night after 3 other couples near us recommended it. They were all correct. The app has 4 ribs and they are not tiny.
If you are lucky to be there when the smoked reuben is on the special, DO IT!!! Never thought it would be so good. My favorite reuben before this was made in New York. My new favorite is made in Mount Pleasant!!
Last but def not least, the service. HTBBQ managed to draft a team of some of the coolest employees from a lot of the best local places in MTP. To have them all in one place is awesome. Jim and Burt (previously raved about him in another review) are great behind the bar!! Last night we had Monica and Jess taking care of us at our table. Their recommendations are always perfect and they manage to take care of you in spite of the crowds.
We are fortunate to have this great place near us!! Congrats to Home Team for opening this new location. Best of luck and we will be back...
