Well worth the drive & well worth the wait!
We stumbled upon Miss K's in 2018 during our second year at the Midwest Old Threshers reunion. Miss K's is a one of a kind, home-made from scratch, family owned and operated business. While you might have to be a little patient if they are busy, I promise the food is beyond worth it! Then there are the deserts!!! To die for!!!
If you don't believe me, my husband and I decided to load our boys up this weekend and make the 6 hour drive from SW Missouri just to get Miss Ks for breakfast and grab some Brookies and Oatmeal Cream Pies while we were there. Yes, we could have waited the 5 weeks till we were back for the reunion, but we have been craving the delicious home-made food for months! There is nowhere like this place in SW MO that we have found and tbh I don't think I will ever find a place like it anywhere else!
I suggest that you and your family take some time to slow down and allow yourselves to enjoy a delicious home cooked meal on your travels. Oh and don't forget to save...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI swear only Iowa has diners like this. You know the kind where you walk in and feel like you just stepped into someoneās home. Itās grandmas old table and chairs, family pictures on the wall, bowls and rolling pins on a bakers shelf in the corner and oldies playing in the kitchen with someone singing along as she cooks. This is clearly family run. We got there within an hour of them closing and our waitress was āducking outā because she had a hair appointment but itās ok because āmom would run the foodā. No big deal. BTW-they arenāt joking about what time they take their last orders and I understand why. It did take some time for our food to come. It was just mom/grandma aka the best home cook making the food. There is no prep line or sous chef here. You legit get homemade, from scratch straight from the kitchen food. Just like mom makes. Or like moms used to make. So be patient. Good food made with love will take longer than you might want it to but let me tell you. It...

I was a little nervous when the first thing to greet me into the restaurant was an aggressive hand written sign on the door about the rules of eating there, which deepened to concern when I walked in and it looked like someone was living in the dining room. Thereās dusty clutter everywhere including racks of clothing. Still, I had been curious about this place for a while so put in my order when a waitress eventually got to me.
My food came out on a dirty plate, greasy with fingerprints and a hair. I have a dog so I probably eat tons of it, I just swept the hair off and ate. The food was amazing. Everything was clearly home made, the biscuits especially were moist and buttery. The gravy was perfectly seasoned, and the sausage was generously portioned hand formed patties.
Overall a strange experience. The cook was singing along with old country music for most of my meal. I probably wonāt go back but if youāre craving a walk home experience it...
