We were excited to try the highest rated pizza joint in the Lowcountry. We were pleased enough, no doubt. It’s surely the nicest pizza restaurant in terms of the physical building, but those who are familiar with great pizza know not to judge a pizza place by the building as good pizza often comes from a hole in the wall.
The pizza was okay. They are better than most in terms of the crust. We didn’t have the garlic knots, but if they’re anywhere as tasty as this crust, then they’ve got to be exceptional. The rest of the pizza just wasn’t mind blowing. The marinara was okay and toppings fresh enough but perhaps not done cooking. The cheese was lacking in flavor. A great pizza uses a quality cheese that makes you see the word mozzarella in your head with every bite.
Now, the Greek salad was delicious. It just wasn’t a Greek salad. They seem to have made their own special thing with their dressing. When you do your own thing, it has to be exceptional or you’re hurting yourself more than helping. Here, they blew it out of the water with their own version of a Greek salad. Fresh ingredients and plentiful. I do wonder if it’s worth it, however. When people eat at a pizza joint, do they want Greek salad or something great but not Greek salad?
In conclusion, this experience falls in the middle of the road. I’ve paid far less for much better pizza, and I’ve paid far more for much worse pizza. Here was just okay prices and okay pizza.
