Tsunami Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Mount Pleasant

Very disappointing visit today. Went to Tsunami for my son's birthday. While we were told that they were not seating parties of 8 or more due to covid we understood the situation, but my son's insisted we go here we went anyways and would split the our party into two separate parties. When we got there the reiterated that they would not seat parties of 8 or more and we told them that we would be willing to split the party. They then explained that they were short staffed and didn't have enough servers to wait on us and it would be 45 minutes or longer to serve us. Note we went there on a Sunday around 730 pm and there were 2 or 3 tables with with no more than 2 at each of those tables. The bar was half full. So what is discerning to me is that the restaurant decided to deter us from dining there with the excuse that they had one server and our order would take at least 45 minutes to be served. By my observation there were a bartender, hostess, possibly a waitress and about 6 or 7 other employees that were in the kitchen. Now I am not a restaurant manager nor am I a business manager, but if you have sufficient cooks in the back then there should have been no issues with my party coming in and ordering. I understand that having a single server would be a challenge to place the order and provide beverages, but why wouldn't the acting manager provide assistance in the case of being short staffed since the manager decided not to add additional servers to the roster. He or she already knew that they were short a person or two from the beginning. Sure the company saves in not having additional staff for the night but ultimately the customers suffer in results of this. I truly abhor the lack of effort presented to us from this staff. We looked forward every year in spending my son's one special day a year to dine here. Instead we walked to the Marco's pizza and dined with them. The pizzas were excellent! I truly hope you take this feedback and reassess how you operate your business and how you want the community to view your establishment. I hope in the future my family can return to our yearly tradition of enjoying a great meal and wonderful wait staff at Tsunami....

Being a military family, my husband and I came here religiously on Tuesdays for their Military Special... Good food, good service and a great value, was so nice that I even hosted a military wives book club here a few weeks ago on a Tuesday.

Tonight was a different story. When we went to pay for the bill, and showed the manager our ID's (this is the manager that we've always had, every Tuesday), she informed us that their policy only allowed for the active duty service member to receive the discount. When I questioned if this was a new policy, she informed me that it wasn't and that it has never been their policy to give the discount to anyone other than active duty.

I explained how we and had always both received the discount, and that SHE had been the one to check our IDs. Then she exclaimed that she "never works on Tuesdays, this is the first Tuesday I'm here". That was a boldfaced lie. She's always been the person who has checked our IDs, we even confirmed with a server, she is always the working manager on Tuesdays.

I informed her that due to her poor handling of the situation, we would not be returning to Tsunami and her response was a flat "ok" and she walked away. It is one thing to change your policy, it is another to LIE about it and mistreat a loyal customer.

We will not be back and we will tell our friends about this awful...

My family and I have been going to Tsunami for a while but due to recent bad experiences we will not be returning. In the past the waiters have been amazing and very knowledgeable about their menus. Food came out in a timely manner and it was our go to spot. Recently, the staff has changed and unfortunately their English is rather low. We have gone twice in the last two months and both times our orders have been completely wrong. Even our drinks came out wrong. I ordered sprite and got diet coke. My husband ordered sweet tea and got water. We went just last night to give it one more try and for a Friday at 7pm we were one of two couples that were eating. It took our waitress 15 minutes to even take our drink order and from there it just went down hill. Our orders were wrong again and mind you we don’t order anything special it’s directly off the menu. It took well over an hour to even get our food so at that point we just ate it bc we were so hungry. We didn’t see our waitress again for what seemed like another hour. When she did arrive there was no refills of drinks or the simple ask how everything was or if we needed anything. She just said “check?” This establishment use to be so good. Sad that it has gone in this direction. I give it another few months and it will be...
