First the good: My husband's Reuben was mostly delicious. I ordered the daily special, which was a blueberry and peach spinach salad, with chicken and poppyseed dressing. For the most part, it was also very good. I like having all spinach, the dressing was good, and it was filling. Now the bad: When the Reuben was finished, there was almost 1/4 cup of Thousand Island dressing remaining on his plate. There was enough dressing for 3 sandwiches total, which is just too much for one sandwich and made a sloppy, soggy mess. For the salad, if you are advertising a special as a blueberry and peach salad, it would be beneficial to have peaches that are not hard as a brick and that have at least a modicum of sweetness. The rest of the salad was fine, but certainly wasn't helped by rock hard peaches. You would think that the person cutting the peach would have noticed the inedible quality of what they put on my salad, but apparently not. If I am ever in Mt. Vernon again, I would eat here, but I would definitely not order anything with...
Read moreI'm from out of town but have adult children who live in the MV area. When my son set his wedding date for the day before Easter and I realized I needed to make arrangements for a rehearsal dinner on Good Friday, I was at a loss as to how to make this happen. (My previous experience with North Main was to stop by this clean and cute little establishment for coffee during the morning/ early afternoon hours.) A conversation with my daughter about my dilemma led to a discovery that North Main is now open later and has expanded their menu beyond breakfast options. Awesome news! Long story short, the new owner, Wendel took care of us! He gave us options that were reasonably priced. We had a wonderful dinner around a large table with delicious food. The staff was clean and courteous and they packaged up our leftovers for us to take (and eat on the run during a busy wedding day! ) Our family was once again extremely impressed and pleased with our service. We...
Read moreCame at 8:30 thinking I would beat the crowd, bit it was already hopping. By the time I left, it was packed in a way that made you know the locals are big fans. Some roads were blocked off for a festival, and since I had never been in this town before, I had a little trouble finding it, but the locals were very friendly and helpful (the first guy who helped me said, Oh, their food is great. You've got to try it.). I ended up parking a couple blocks away, because I didn't realize there was parking right behind the building, but it was a pleasant walk. The staff were very friendly and accommodating - allowed me a two-egg omelette, instead of three. The inside is well-decorated and enjoyable, though it can be noisy when full. The coffee was good. I was disappointed the food wasn't salted well, and the omelette had processed cheese, which really surprised me, but other than that, it was fine. I would come again and try something else probably or ask for...
