Surf Hound — Restaurant in Mountain Brook

Just ok. I ordered the birria steak nachos for my meal. Super large portion and the vegetables on it were great. The nachos were baked onto the metal tray - I think as a result of holding them while the other food at our table was being prepared. This made the chips soggy and not crisp. We had to work at scraping the cheese off the tray. One of our orders - a salad - was either not put in by our server or forgotten by the kitchen. Husband loved the salad. Chicken was seasoned well and juicy. Daughter chose the lettuce wraps and loved the spices and mixture of veggies. We waited a really long time for our food. To be fair - it was a busy Friday night. Weird night for me so I just ordered tea - which is not offered at this restaurant - so I chose lemonade - which was Minutemaid. For a restaurant like this and a cost like this - I was a little surprised.

There is a note on the menu to the effect of "the chef does not like changes to food orders" so if you're one of those - you might not appreciate that guideline.

WOW!!!! Abhi has opened the restaurant Surf Hound in Mountain Brook Village. It is located in the former location of Dram & Carrigans. Even though Surf Hound has only been open for a few weeks the 5 of us decided to walk up to the village and try it out. We arrived about 6:30 pm. The place has a fun light vibe and it was packed! Surf Hound has more seating than the previous restaurants. The employees were all VERY friendly and nice. That includes the hostess, the bartender & our waiter. The drink menu is great! We ordered drinks from the bar & only had to wait a short time before a table was available. Our waiter was very friendly & efficient. Brought everyone water w/out even asking. And the menu!!! It is great! Our group got the bison burger, a jasmine rice dish and the TUNA POKE SALAD!! I am still amazed at how much tuna it had and how delicious it was. Our food was delivered promptly and was delicious. I’m so impressed at how great our first time to eat at Surf Hound was. Of course Abhi knows how to run a restaurant✔️Great service, great food & such a cute place! The bar has a lot of seating for other drinking or eating....

A friend and I stopped in for a drink after having dinner at Abhi upstairs. After closing out, our checks clearly prompted us to pay online using the largely printed QR code. We did so. I attached the confirmation page that we both saw below, where it says, “Feel free to leave when ready.” 10 minutes later, we left. The bartender chased us outside, and, rather rudely, accused us of not paying our tabs because we never gave her our cards. If there isn't a system in place to keep track of completed online payments, don't let it be an option to pay. That whole interaction was absurd and avoidable.

All things considered, I'm not going to let this singular unpleasant interaction deter me from returning. Our drinks were fabulous, and every other employee was very nice. The food menu looks wonderful. Hopefully next time I won't be...
