My stay at the Grand Bo was three fold; I traveled to Birmingham for the USTA State Championship Playoffs held in Pelham Alabama and wanted a luxurious place to stay and renew after long hot tennis matches. Secondly, I have a son getting married in January in Birmingham so one of our daughter's who was joining me and I wanted to check this hotel out for a potential place for my immediate family and the Bishop marrying our son to stay. Thirdly, there was a surprise wedding shower for my son and his fiance in a nearby neighborhood that night. Upon arrival I valet'd my car then carried my large tote and hanging bag to the lobby with no help. The front check in was my only positive experience. I was greeted by a friendly, attractive young man who offered me a glass of champagne as a welcome. I went to my room then headed to the rooftop lounge to sit outside and relax with one more glass of bubbly before showering for my son's nearby wedding party. The waitress was extremely rude and the younger couple next to me was in a heated discussion and F-bombs were flying and no one asked them to calm down or better yet leave! I asked for my check and the waitress made no conversation whatsoever, she just heard me, turned to go inside to get the tab, put it on my table and left. The rest of my tennis team was staying in a Hilton Garden Inn & Suites and I regret not doing the same and spending the money I did for the lack of service, amenities, and bedding. I had requested extra towels which were not in the room, there were no q-tips, no cotton balls and when my daughter realized she forgot her contact solution, she called the front desk to inquire about some and was curtly told no such thing was available. When I left the following morning for the semi finals, I literally had to put my tote down to open the large, heavy door then hold the door open with my derrière so I could pick up my tote and get through the door. Considering the hype of this hotel, the room rate, and the upscale location, I certainly expected someone to at least open the door. The atmosphere (besides the red neck couple on the roof top in the cursing fight) had potential, the room although dark did have a nice sized shower, and the location is convenient, but for the price and overall attitude of the employees I will not...
Read moreDue to a series of absolutely catastrophic failures at another property in Birmingham, my wife and I found ourselves with no accommodations, in spite of a confirmed reservation, digital check in and the issuance of a digital key that actually worked on a room that was already occupied by another guest! We were told that there were no available rooms anywhere in Birmingham, but a quick search in the Marriott Bonvoy App found one remaining room at the Grand Bohemian. I called before heading your way and the gentleman at the front desk assured me that the reservation was in place and the room ready. When we arrived he could not have been more accommodating and even provided a couple of dog treats for our Golden Doodle, Pippin. The valet took care of our car and our bags and the two of them made us feel better just because they seemed to care. We are in town for the next two weeks for the arrival of our first grandchild, and the stress we had experienced at the other hotel, as well as the fatigue of the 11 ½ hour drive we had made were erased. My wife and I both slept like babies, we had a lovely breakfast (joined by our daughter and son-in-law) at Habitat, and then set out for the day. The Saturday night crew was just as warm. Sunday morning, the charming desk clerk arranged for a late check-out and was delightfully engaging. We left for church and the morning valet went the extra mile to point out that our car was low on fuel and directed us to the nearby Shell station as we got into the car. He also called us by name. This level of service is so rare these days, and it seemed to flow naturally from everyone. Our final interaction was with the valet as we left. He had actually offered earlier to help dispose of my dog’s waste bag (I turned him down and threw it in the trash can outside myself, but I was stunned….Who volunteers to take out the dog poo?). He was helpful and warm as we got in the car to leave. All in all, it was one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had, and that is coming from someone who has status as a Marriott Titanium and a Hilton Diamond…I spend a lot of nights in hotels. We...
Read moreWelcome to Alice in Wonderland! 😂 We enjoyed our stay. This hotel is nice. All the staff was helpful and friendly. It’s not very large and is located in a little village area where there are shops and restaurants within walking distance. There were multiple events being hosted during our two night stay that occupied spaces like the art gallery etc. We stayed in a Grand Bohemian suite. It was very clean and spacious, and well-stocked with towels and toiletries. The kitchen area was fantastic! Fridge, freezer, micro, and an under counter ice maker. Would have loved to have this kitchen in our room at the Grand Bohemian Greenville! Fabulous. Other ppl commented about the price point for what you get at this hotel and I tend to agree. The room was nice but overall I felt the hotel doesn’t offer enough to warrant prices. The housekeeping service was the best we have experienced in any hotel. They came multiple times to check on us. We did not have to call for anything, they were ahead of it. Awesome. No barn doors in the bathroom here! Very very happy to see doors that close properly in the bathroom… but they are the heavy commercial doors, so not as attractive. It appears to me that this location was a remodeled hotel and not built new. The only complaint I have about the room is that the bathroom has no vent fan, or if it did, it was not functioning. The art gallery curator was very friendly and took time to chat with us. I am not sure what is up with the Alice in Wonderland type theme going on, it is not my favorite. It is just not my taste. We used the dine-in option from Habitat and it was all very good - except the Kessler Margarita that they brought me. Like it was offensively bad. There is a tapas and tequila spot right next door. I recommend going there if you would like a margarita lol! Overall very happy. I would recommend and stay at this...
