Absolutely fantastic! I ordered 50 pastries for an event and they were so helpful--from helping me decide the best mix of items to having it ready to pick up when they opened the day of the event. We had so many people ask where we got them that I wished I'd grabbed some business cards while I was there.
One attendee said that they travel quite a bit and, when they are in Europe, they always visit French bakeries and they are often disappointed with what they receive. He raved about the croissants being among the very best he's ever had while traveling.
My favorite was the double chocolate croissant. It was not too sweet so you could really taste the dark chocolate in the pastry and the ganache inside was perfection (and, again, not too much).
This place is well-known and loved in the area they are located, as evidenced by the large crowd of people waiting to get in at 8:15 on a Saturday morning. Dads walking there, holding their young daughter's hands, women holding newborn infants and chatting with other moms, businessmen in suits, white collar workers--all waiting for their chance to buy a pastry and a cup of coffee.
We will be coming back as a family and we will be purchasing all of our pastries for future events here. Well...
Read moreWe actually drove into Greenwood to visit our old French bakery right before stopping into Pere, so we could compare chocolate croissants and decide: was it worth driving all the way to our old French bakery and dealing with long lines just to get pastries, or should Grand Pere be our new go-to? After a blind taste test, Pere won! The chocolate was better, the flakiness of the pastry was crunchier, and the dough didn’t turn to a gummy mess in your mouth. The selection might be small, but the pastries are delish.
During our second visit here we discovered new (and much nicer) display cases had been installed. They give more room for (hopefully a wider selection of) food and they are bright and elegant, a massive improvement.
I wish the atmosphere was a bit better though. It’s dark inside and the seating area isn’t very inviting. Hopefully with amazing pastries leading the charge, Grand Pere can continue making improvements to the interior and can be a shining star for the neighborhood, one that people will drive from...
Read moreAs a military veteran, coming to this place is truly amazing. I always get the iced chai latte, it is a family owned restaurant with nothing but decent hard working americans it makes me proud to be served by such people. Their is beautiful paintings on the wall for purchase by a local artist, the nice decent people of this small bakery are always making people feel welcome and at home. I have seen everyone treateed with the same amount of respect when I go in and for me this is an important value of any business. The pastries are truly to die for and out of this world, I cannot beleive in the USA we have such great people to make the locals of this great place such amazing food. I always come in almost daily for my caffeine fix, I would rather support this place than starbucks. I always recommend stopping in for your sugar fix or caffeine fix it is truly upscale and what I would expect from such decent hard working americans and this place truly reminds me what is so great about...
