I had noted the restaurant several times, but being a BBQ fan, paid it little interest as its lot neighbor captured most of my attention. So, out and about in the neighborhood with my partner, and both drifting dangerously close to 'hangry', we thought, 'what better time to try the BBQ?' Lucky for us it was closed! We were greeted warmly by one of the owners up entry, though did not know it the time. The dining area is cozy, if oddly shaped - think of a rectangle wearing a right triangle hat, with the long side (intentionally avoiding the proper term here, as catching folks unawares with certain math references has caused everything from spit-takes to self-destructive binges and I will be responsible for no more dry-cleaning bills) featuring mostly 4-top window seating. Our host offered open-seating, but as we appeared indecisive, directed us to one table, but I requested another, which he immediately wiped down, then walked away as took our seats, reappearing almost immediately with an Absolut liter bottle, shed its label, filled with cold water, capped, and two glasses. In my mind, by my judgment, the experience from opening the door to receiving the water has provided enough information to warrant the 5 stars. And by that comment I mean that a business that gets it right on these little things- that is meticulous execution, creative in its design and embellishments, and confident in its offering, should not be expected to fail to cross the finish line. Time Out did not fail to cross the finish line. I had quite possibly the best lamb gyro... ever (sorry Suni's,). The portioning, thick cut strips, the barest hint of char, and moist (where most other gyros fail to make the grade). My partner had the blue cheese bacon burger (I am pretty sure that was what she ordered, I was too involved with the menu to be certain), which, when delivered, ran the risk of making me regret my order (I didn't though). I cannot be certain, and did not ask, but I believe the buns are house made or delivered fresh. Due to the aforementioned 'hangry' risk neither of us offered or requested samples. Both of us moaned and sighed with delight. While I enjoyed another star in the 'clean plate club' my partner, being about half my size or less across all dimensions, toted home half her meal. And more than a day later she is still going on about the fries. I don't 'live for food', I live to collect moments. And this was one... If COVID, or just life in general has robbed your memory of life's simple pleasures, and your moments just run together, as if looped shades of gray, lightening and darkening your eyes. Step into Time Out. Breathe deeply. Drink the water. When served your meal, say thank you. I cannot guarantee you will have the experience I had, but I am quite confident that your moments between entrance and exit will be rich in flavor, casually meticulous, and sink happy roots into a field barren of simple pleasure memories for too long. (Or something like that... this is what happens when I get interrupted too many times, it was just supposed to be a simple review, oh well, it's all true and sincere...
Read moreHappened upon this little local restaurant on our way north of Seattle. We had just arrived into Seattle International from the east coast and were looking for something close to the the highway to stop for lunch since it was 2:30pm our time. We were immediately greeted with a friendly smile and sat quickly! Food came out quickly! Everything we ordered was delicious!! Homemade hummus had great texture and a yummy subtle garlic flavor! Traditional and Chicken gyros were flavorful and filling! Greek salad and dressing was tasty-Appreciated not having a bunch of iceberg lettuce as filler. Lots of cucumbers and tomatoes! Bacon burger and Chicken burger were juicy and veggies were fresh. French fries were hand cut fries, crispy and well seasoned. And my daughter had a pancake as big as her plate and super fluffy! The chef, whom I assume was possibly the owner too, was so kind when he brought the food out. He said he felt bad he didn’t make her pancake in the shape of Mickey Mouse for her when he realized the pancake was for a child. He told us he knew how to draw Mickey’s face in chocolate syrup for the kids. Then after my daughter basically inhaled the pancake, he brought her a Mickey Mouse shaped one! You could tell they had some regulars that frequented the restaurant by the interactions with the server, bar tender, and chef. We were so happy we stumbled upon this place! Had lots of options on the menu for all ages and everyone’s individual taste: Greek, American, & all day breakfast! We left happy and with our stomachs full as we continue north to our destination....
Read moreThis place had probably my best dine out food I've had to my memory. I had the Lamb Gyro and Greek Coffee/Chocolate Shake with my brother, while my sister had a Vanilla Shake and Cheeseburger. But hand on heart, even though they weren't the main attraction, the best of my meal were the Greek Fries. And no, I'm not joking when I'd say I wouldn't be mad only order them by itself.
A lot of places can slice their fries thin, or they're soggy with grease, or even fried until crunchy husks, not even mentioning over/under seasoning, but these were legitimately the best fries I've had. And that's even just the fries that weren't on top and had no cheese!
But stepping away from the food, the server we got with us today was all for having some fun with all of us, joking around and was very friendly, even as more people came in for their own meals. (We freaked out at first though, when he joked that the bottle of water he sat down for us at the table was 20 dollars, but he did clarify it was a joke and as we all let out a sigh of relief, all four of us had a good laugh at ourselves with that one.)
And the atmosphere was extremely cozy, like sitting at the dining table and waiting for a home cooked meal, with a radio softly playing in the background. Couple that with the server, and we all immediately felt welcome into here.
Just big points all around for this place, we left with full bellies, and while it's quite the trip out for us, I personally- if I'm in the area or going to it- will absolutely swing by here whenever I have even a little room...
