Before i start this, I would like to say I am a Texan. I was born and raised on Mexican food and spicy food and I know what good authentic mexican food is. This was not it. My mother, who hates spicy food normally, actually wished there was spice in these dishes.
To start off with the good aspects of this place:
The service was very fast and we got our food incredibly quickly. We got our appetizer and less than 2 minutes later, got our food which was great.
The staff were friendly.
Now the negatives:
The food. My biggest complaint is the food. Every single dish I tasted lacked salt. The salsa had no spice at all and just tasted like watery tomatoes and cilantro. The queso was fine, even thought it came with the breadcrumbs we asked to keep off (who puts breadcrumbs on queso anyways?) For our main dishes we got the two enchilada and one taco plate, and the three taco plate. The tacos were almost inedible to me because there was no spice at all in the beef, let alone salt. It was flavorless. I barely ate 2 of the 3 tacos. The beef in the enchilada combo plate was just as flavorless and the enchilada sauce was literally just tomato sauce. The rice had no seasoning or flavor at all. It was just bland rice. The refried beans were fine. Still could have used salt, but they were decent. The best thing on the plate of either dish. The entire meal was just flavorless and incredibly dissapointing. This could barely be called Mexican food.
The prices for this stuff was also insane. 11 bucks for a half filled bowl of queso?? I could get a bowl of queso filled to the top for 8 or 9 bucks in texas. The prices for everything was too high for the quality of food.
Overall, we won't be going...
Read moreI should have known better than to go to a chain restaurant for Mexican food. But, it's been a rough couple of weeks and I was not thinking clearly. My first idea was not bad - coffee at Skög Haus. I enjoyed my latte and got a little writing done before I felt the need for lunch. For some reason, my addled brain thought going to Mazatlan was a good idea. I had seen the big yellow building on my way to coffee, so I could get there without Google. I made sure it was open, then put my phone away. I got there a few minutes after it opened, so the parking lot was wide open. The foyer has an unusual layout, so it took a minute to figure out where to stand and hope that someone would notice me and guide me to a table. It only took a minute for a nice lady to show up and help me get a table. We exchanged a few words in Spanish, but she insisted on English for most things. The menu was long (not a good sign). While I read it, a kid brought me a basket of chips and a bowl of salsa. I focused on the combination plates where I found a combo that included my favorite dish - Chile Relleno. I ordered that. When the food showed up, I was immediately disappointed. The large plate was full, but mostly with lettuce. The star of the dish, the chile relleno, was not right at all. Too much cheese, dense batter and worst of all, canned diced chiles! I tried a bite of everything, and they were all bland. Even with hot sauce and salt, there was no flavor. I never thought there was such a thing as too much cheese, but they managed it. For $30, I had expected more quality. There are many places to get Mexican food around here, I'll stick to those places...
Read moreI stopped by this restaurant yesterday with my family for a take out order and I can’t event count the number of times I asked the person who took my order (Nataly129 is what’s listed on the receipt) to remove all dairy products from all the 4 items in my order. I get back home with my order and found there was a lot of cheese in one of the items. I called the place at 2:01PM, I get someone on the line saying the manager was not there by then but she gets all the details and she started the manager will call me back as soon as he gets in. The manager calls me back at 3:52PM. After providing all details, the manager asks me to please stop by sometime this week to get the same item at no cost for the mistake. Today I stop by and I inform the person in charge (Martin) about what happened and he literally asks to confirm the name of the manager I talked to. I didn’t get the manager’s name on my phone call and Martin stated he needed to know the name so he knows who to talk to. So my point was shouldn’t he know the schedule of each manager and determine who the manager by that time? His attitude was really disappointing, he treated me like I was trying to get some food for free. I paid $83.49 for my order of 4 items and wanted to leave everything as is after calling. The only reason why I came back is because the manager asked me to do so. I have eaten at many Mexican restaurants and have NEVER received this treatment. I do not recommend this place to anyone...
