My wife and I were content with ordering some seafood from the walk-up fish bar window out front, until she pointed out the swanky restaurant attached to it, accessible from a door just a bit further down. As it was nearly freezing outside, we opted for the latter, and were not disappointed with what we found within. Despite arriving around 30 minutes before the restaurant was to be closed (early) for a private event, we were seated without complaint, and attended to immediately. We settled on some fried calamari, which my wife had been craving and seeking (to no avail, up to this point) all weekend, as well as a cup of the lobster bisque, and some Dungeness crab and artichoke dip, to split between us. To accompany our appetizer array, my wife paired the Shellfish wine flight, and for myself, a Blood Orange Old Fashioned. Nothing about the experience disappointed in any way. The chipotle lime aioli for the perfectly crispy fried calamari gave it a kick, while simultaneously taking the edge off the typically pungent and slightly off-putting aroma of cuttlefish. The crab and artichoke dip was equal parts land and sea, and coated with cheese - who could complain about that? And the lobster bisque? Creamy, comforting, savory, and with an aroma and flavor that delicately balances and captures the essence of lobster without overpowering or overwhelming it. I've never had better. Service was friendly, welcoming, efficient, and most importantly, unobtrusive - our server was there exactly when she needed to be, and left us to ourselves when she wasn't. And despite the looming deadline for the private event, we were never once felt pressured or rushed to end our dining experience. From tip to tail, everything about our visit to Ivar's was exactly what one should expect from a competent restaurant: an enchanting ambiance, diligent staff, and incredible cuisine. If you're an out-of-towner who finds themselves in Mukilteo, even while waiting for, or after disembarking from the ferry, you'd be wise to take to heart the advice of the restaurant's namesake, Ivar Haglund, and "KEEP CLAM", slow down, and stop in for a meal here. Even if it's just from the take-out window out front. You won't be disappointed.

Upon entering, we stated we had reservations and was told we needed to wait. We were told they were waiting for a window seat to open up. The young lady with the long dark hair was not friendly. Finally the other hostess came she had long reddish hair and was a lot friendlier upon heading to our table I noticed many tables by the window that were empty. I haven't been in this building since it was Taylor's landing. Our waiter was Erik he reminded me of a car salesman, talked a lot. I ordered the surf and turf with shrimp, i ordered my steak medium well. My other two guests had the crab cakes and the sauteed seafood. The presentation of the food was excellent. My steak was very well done and the mushrooms i had to pay extra for were out of a can. The red potatoes were dry and salty and the asparagus a bit hard the Shrimp were amazing. My other guest that ordered the crab cakes stated every thing she had was good except the asparagus was a bit hard. The gentlemen that ordered the seafood sautee realized the scallops were missing he told the waiter and the waiter stated they were not like regular scallop's they were really small (what does that even mean) he offered to get him there appetizer scallops free of charge. I personally think they just forgot to add them in the meal. We finished our meal in about 30 minutes still no scallops. I think Erik forgot to put in the order, then realized it just as he noticed we were done with our meal. He comes over and states there on they're way we told him that was not necessary we just wanted our check. After some debate we decided to wait.. several minutes go by and the scallops arrive. I have been too many restaurants in several different states and this really is one of the worst. Ivar's Salmon House in Seattle is by far way better. If you're looking for fine dining with good food, this is not it. Dont dress nice just come in jeans... very casual. The view is what you pay for. We visited on April 28th 2018 around 5 pm

Single parent review. Wish I could give a better score. Came here with my three boys. We got sat relatively quickly for not having a reservation. Ordered the scallop appetizer, got three tiny scallops for $18, they were ok nothing spectacular. The highlight for my son of the entire meal was the black cherry soda, it was very yummy, hard to find in stores, and came with a chilled glass. His steak was overcooked $44, ordered M. Rare and came well done, the crab cakes almost comically tiny and missing any large pieces of crab. The food was bland and my salmon very dry $23. For me the two best things were the clam chowder my middle son ordered this (Ivar's regular recipe), $7 wish I had saved the money and just ate that, and the asparagus that came with my salmon was some of the best asparagus I have ever had was the only thing that was seasoned well. We had to share utensils for the appetizer. We had to ask two times before they finally did bring us utensils, finally delivered by not our server AFTER the main food had been delivered. The corn meal block "pudding" side dish for the salmon was strange, under seasoned, sticky and glue like mouth feel took one bite and was done. My youngest got the fish and chips $14 and ate them, again this was nothing spectacular or special. Was a visit that fell very flat and was dissatisfied especially with how much $$$ I spent on such poor service and sub-par food. We didn't even see our waiter again after food was delivered until he brought the check. We were not asked how the food was, if we wanted dessert and my son actually had wanted another soda. We won't be going back.

Absolutely wonderful experience with kind staff, especially thanks to Kimberly, who was our phenomenal waitress. Kimberly was incredibly personable, attentive, and caring - our entire party of three agreed that she was easily the best server that we've ever had. Thank you Kimberly for making our night extra memorable! Ivar's has a clean nautical atmosphere and direct view of the waterfront. Throughout our meal, we were able to watch the waterfowl, ferries, and spotted a harbour seal swimming right near the outdoor seating. The food itself was wholly satisfying (includes complimentary bread and butter) with fresh cod fish and chips, cooked just right to not be too heavy or oily. The real star of the show was the clam chowder! I'm personally not a fan of clam chowder at all, but I shared a bowl of chowder with a friend and it was the only clam chowder that I've ever enjoyed. It's incredibly creamy and just the right heaviness, with diced potatoes and small palatable pieces of clam. No large chunks of clam at all! Definitely worth noting that they have an easily accessible online reservation system that accommodates same-day reservations. I will definitely be visiting this scenic location again!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ivar's restaurant that exceeded all of my expectations. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was amazing, with the beautiful visuals of the water in the bay and the stunning sunset in the background. The restaurant had a warm and welcoming ambiance that made me feel relaxed and comfortable. The server was extremely attentive and provided excellent service throughout the entire meal. He was knowledgeable about the menu and offered great recommendations. He was always available when we needed him. I ordered the cauliflower steak and was blown away by the great taste. The dish was bursting with flavor. It was a perfect choice for my vegetarian diet, and I was happy to have such a delicious and satisfying option. To complement my meal, I ordered a mocktail, which was expertly crafted and tasted fantastic. The drink was refreshing and perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of sweetness. Overall, the restaurant provided an incredible experience, with great food, excellent service, and an ambiance that was unmatched. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience.
