I've sat on this review for a moment. It took me a while to determine what it was that didn't quite sit right. It's interesting because if you took the food from this place and put it in an atmosphere that fit it, focused on the experience, it may be worth it. When you think of Muncie, we have a developing food scene but there aren't many places that can pull off a $200 table for two. Unfortunately I feel like this fell short of that goal also. The tab was certainly $200 but the experience didn't match the tab.
The front of house was friendly, the staff was nice. They need to go away from time to time and let you chew an entire bite between check ins. The seating suffers from the same problem as its predecessor. It's far to close. I was with my wife, I didn't feel like I could have a conversation without hearing every conversation around me. The wait staff was so loud, shouting across the rooms and talking so loud to their tables. They were friendly, it wasn't nasty shouting it just didn't fit with my expectations of a $200 bill. I would expect great service, individuals trained in hospitality and who understood how to "serve" not just take an order and check in an obnoxious amount of times.
The food. It was great, it really was. The presentation lacked something special but the taste was great. I've long had the opinion that you can only make a piece of beef taste "so" good. They did it. I had the filet, and it was cooked to perfection. I had it with a simple side of potatoes. It hit the spot. Over in a flash and zero complaints. Something didn't sit right with the nac and cheese but I attribute that to personal preference, it was just too liquid for me personally. I think it was fine. The wife had fish, she loved it, her asparagus was also great and she enjoyed her cocktail.
Overall I think the lesson here is managing expectations and providing an experience that matches the cost. We are close enough to foodie areas like Noblesville, Carmel, Indianapolis to experience amazing food at better prices. Drive included. I think the restaurant lacks its own identity, the remnants of the previous restaurant just lingers and it felt like a cheap renovation. I was excited to see a Sinatra style dining experience, I got a cheap impersonation of one. A designer would take this place to the next level, someone focused entirely on the experience and theme. The food here, not the problem at all, friendly staff, good bartender. Overall we could do a lot worse, I was just expecting more for the...
Read moreMy husband and I went on a dinner date tonight and had a great time and enjoyed the food and atmosphere a lot. We were worried at first because it took 20 minutes for our waitress to come to our table for our drink order after sitting down. After she got to us it seemed it probably took a moment because she seemed to try and talk to her customers and help them along the way to learn the menu. Meredith was our waitress and ended up doing a great job. My husband got the porterhouse pork chop, mashed potatoes, and mac n’ cheese and they were all super yummy! It was a little confusing when the waitress asked if he wanted soup or salad because it sounded like it came with his meal, however that’s not the case and the soup was an additional expense. That could have been worded better because the soup was pretty mediocre and we would not have purchased it had we known it didn’t come with his meal. I had the orange chicken, which was also very good. I do think this meal is a bit overpriced for the quantity of food. It says served with green beans but my meal probably only had a few green beans and only 6 small pieces of chicken. We ordered espresso, which was not to my taste but my husband liked it. We also got the Turtle cheesecake, which I wish we wouldn’t have purchased. If you love A LOT of caramel the cheesecake is for you, but personally way too much caramel and way too sweet. I like more of a rich cheesecake where the cheesecake is main flavor and everything else is just an accent… this cheesecake was not that. Overall would return to try other options and loved...
Read moreI recently celebrated my birthday at Adam Street Chophouse, and it was a fantastic experience! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel special. Despite a couple of very minor inconveniences, the manager was incredibly apologetic and went above and beyond to make it right, even offering us two complimentary appetizers. We tried the shrimp cocktail and the nacho corn dip with potato petals, both of which were delicious!
The cocktails and wine were perfectly crafted, and for the main course, I had the French Quarter steak, which was absolutely divine, while my partner enjoyed The Porterhouse, cooked to perfection. For dessert, I was pleasantly surprised with a special birthday Buckeye dessert with a candle, which was a sweet touch. My partner and I also indulged in a second dessert, the fruit cobbler, which was heavenly.
Our server was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, making for a memorable celebration. I’m already looking forward to our next visit! Highly recommend Adam Street Chophouse for a wonderful...
