The food is very good and authentic. The place is clean and location is convenient. However, the servers are very slow, and knowledge of dishes on the menu is very limited. We waited 20 or so minutes for the server to bring our shakes and when it was served the shake is dripping on the glass. The servers were struggling taking orders. Customers coming in to the restaurant are not all Filipinos hence mostly it's their first time trying the food. It would be helpful to retain more customers if servers are trained basic knowledge of the dishes on the menu. The servers appeared to be struggling to take orders. We waited for another 30 minutes before the food was served. Food handling from servers are very poor. For example; The servers fingers were touching the food, touching tip of the glass. This is very unsanitary. We are experienced and professionals in culinary running our own international catering. First thing to pay attention to when running a restaurant is Presentation, Cleanliness, And Quality of food. Pleasant customer service is the key to retaining customers. We observed other customers at the restaurant waited for a long time as well and shaking their heads on how the servers interacted with them. We also noticed some customers did not finished nor touched the food they ordered. Whoever cooked the food did an excellent job on the dish, knowledgeable on what ingredients and taste the food is supposed to be. 5 star on the quality of food. However, 2 stars on servers and customer service. This area requires improvement on training. We are very glad to know there is an authentic Filipino restaurant in town but the quality of customer service requires improvement for the restaurant to thrive and do well. Servers and customer service staff are the face of the restaurant, please next time do better. Customers appreciate quality food for the price they are paying, including the quality of service they receive from servers. The ambiance and Cleanliness of the restaurant is great. The waiting time needs improvement. Nobody wants to wait 20 minutes for a refreshment to be served. Waiting time on food is understandable due to time required to cook the food to ensure freshness. The restaurant only had 5 tables full during our visit hence no need for servers to serve refreshment 20 minutes later. The blender was left unattended while our shakes were being prepared, and made loud noises that customers were shaking their heads for. We reminded the server after 20 minutes that our shakes still sit on the blender. Customer service requires improvement. Thank you for the experience dining at Baryo...
Read moreFirst off, the food here is delicious, and I highly recommend giving it a try. It’s always exciting when a new restaurant is in town, and this is one I plan to visit a lot in the future.
But there are a few issues I hope will get smoothed out soon, since I visited Baryo a week or two after their opening:
-The dining room gets very smoky, which may indicate that a kitchen vent needs fixed or replaced. Becasue of this, my eyes were a bit watery and stung a little by the time we left.
-The serving staff need significantly better training. At first I thought our server was just nervous, but then he kept forgetting my partner’s papaya drink. Toward the end of the meal, he took our glasses to give us water refills, and we never got more water. I also ordered a meal with tofu and the server asked if fried tofu was okay. I said yes, but when it was brought out there was no tofu; I figured I had misunderstood the menu and they didn’t have any tofu, and the server being new didn’t realize they had none. But later one of the owners came by and mentioned they have tofu and said to just ask for it in the future.
-The menu doesn’t feel entirely consistent with itself, and this is also part of why I wasn’t sure if they even have tofu (it’s in a few descriptions but not listed in the pricing options for any dishes).
I am quite hopeful that this restaurant will stick around for awhile and be successful, and I plan to visit again in the future. But I genuinely hope they’re able to get these issues worked out so that service is more smooth and the dining environment is...
Read moreFilipino food in Indiana?! What a lovely, surprise to find this place. The food was delicious and authentic and the wait staff was so patient and kind when my family was indecisive with what entrees we wanted (thank you!)
Table came with some bread and butter.
We ordered Spring Rolls as the appetizer. You can choose between beef and pork. It comes with is a sweet chilli sauce for dipping. The spring rolls came hot and crunchy.
We also ordered 3 entrees to share family style among 4 people: Pork Adobo, Chicken Afritada and Fried Pompano. Portions were good, and we ended up with a little left over. We also got 4 sides of steamed white rice (rice comes with entrees).
Pork Adobo was the largest dish with a lot of meat. It was a tad salty but still good. Chicken Afritada was my favorite but it only comes with 3 chicken thighs. However, the meat is so tender it slides off of the bone, so it was still easy to share! The flavor is more subtle and mild with the tomato being the main component. My father absolutely loved the Pompano. It was about 8 inches long and a handlength wide. It was easy to eat as the meat was scored. It came right off of the bones. The sauce it comes with on the side is a savory black vinegar that you can dip in the fish in. Quite refreshing and not greasy!
10/10 I'd eat here again whenever I'm in Muncie.
Bonus: They also have...
