Not living on the coast, we are so happy we found an actual seafood market! We live an hour away, but kind of in the middle of nowhere. I had a craving for seafood and if Walmart in the closest town doesn't sell it, then we're plum out of luck. This Gandy's had 5-star reviews so we were excited to make the drive and give it a try.
This store is a friendly family business, owned and operated by two brothers. The service they gave was stellar, freely sharing their knowledge to help you find just what you want/need, and not pushy or rushing you along. Everything looked and smelled really fresh. On the day we visited, they had a good selection. The owner said he typically updates their Facebook page at least 5 times a day, keeping customers informed of what they have available. They can also order specific requests!!
For $3 over market price, they'll prepare any of their fresh selections right there for you. What a deal! There's a great offering of veggies as well. There's a dining area so we tried the red snapper and it was absolutely wonderful. Another customer recommended to us the frozen crawfish pie which we scooped up for later. We also added some catfish and XL red shrimp for the freezer. They have a nice freezer sampling where hubby spotted some gator to try. We threw in some spices as they have a good Cajun spice selection. They did a wonderful job packing our purchases on ice for the trip back home. Once these are depleted from our freezer, we WILL be back!
Other reviewers commented on this place being expensive. Three things: 1.) If you haven't noticed, everything is expensive these days. 2.) The prices weren't far off from what you'd pay in any coastal fish market. Considering their supplier drives it up fresh from the Gulf daily, it certainly wasn't unreasonable. You'll definitely spend much more for a bland dinner for 2 at any sit-down restaurant. 3.) The seafood is fresh, unlike the often smelly, slimy old counter fish you find at Kroger. There is just no comparison.
Be warned: You'll have a tough time choosing...
Read moreSince I found out Bubba Gandy sell crab fingers or what they call cocktail fingers, I’ve been trying to purchase a container for the past three weeks. They are closed Sunday and Monday which I am assuming they are replenishing their stock on one of those days. Why is it that by the time I get off of work on Tuesday evening or even Wednesday they are sold out of these fingers??? I called the store yesterday(around 6:30) which was Tuesday, June 30th and asked the person who answered if they had any, was told yes then I asked if they had enough to go thru the next day(Wednesday, July 1st) because I knew I would not make it to the store in time and was told yes. I said great I will be there tomorrow. As soon as I got off from work, I headed straight there. Why did they NOT have one single container when I arrived??? My problem with the Murfreesboro location is that they are only getting three containers knowing they sell out within the 1st day possibly the 2nd. There’s no need of carrying the product if you aren’t going to get enough to last at least to Thursday. The last couple of times I purchased the fingers, I had to get them from the Cookeville location which is an hour away from where I live. So disgusted with the Murfreesboro location especially since I for the most part will go on that Tuesday..at the latest Wednesday to get the crab fingers and I not only drive from downtown Nashville but I also bypass the city I live in to get to...
Read moreIf you’re looking for some fresh fish or a shrimp boil in Murfreesboro then Gandy Seafood Cajun Market in Murfreesboro is where you need to go. When I visited he has some think chunks of Chilean Sea Bass, Mahi Mahi, Red Fish, Cod chunks, etc., etc., etc. Talked with Ben Meredith who took over the ownership of the store in February 2022. He is working hard to bring incredible pieces of fish to Murfreesboro for your dinner table. If you don’t feel like cooking, they have a variety of dishes they can cook up for you to take home. I had the shrimp, potato, corn, and sausage plate…it was delicious with just the right amount of spice to let you know there was some spice in the dish. You get two sauces…the garlic butter and cocktail sauce, both are perfect accompaniments for dipping in the shrimp. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and the sausage was very good. The entire meal cost was $18…pretty good deal for the amount of food you get. I got the peeled and deveined shrimp, you could get the whole shrimp at a lower cost.
P.S. I plated the dish from the Styrofoam container…the smiley face was intentional!!!
Also picked up a 1/2 gallon of Franklin’s Mango Peach Fruit Tea…for me I cut it with some brewed tea to reduce the sweetness while still getting the great flavors.
Great place to shop, talk seafood, and enjoy a meal there. Service was great and it was a pleasure learning the owners perspective on the things facing small restaurants in...
