I’ve only visited this establishment once, and I’m not going to lie, I did not enjoy the experience. This is not to say that a good experience could not be had here, I’m only saying that my experience was not enjoyable. The problem was that I seemed to have ordered poorly. Everyone else in the group that I was with ordered burgers, and they all seemed to have enjoyed them. I, on the other hand, decided to opt for the shrimp po’boy with fries.
After the waitress took the order she returned back to the table a few minutes later to tell me that they were out of the hearth baked hoagie roll that the sandwich was normally served on. She asked me if I wanted it on a hotdog bun. I assured her that a hotdog bun is not large enough for a po’boy sandwich and ask her to put it on a hamburger bun.
When my order arrived I was surprised to find that a hotdog bun had been pressed flat and then topped with the veggies and shrimp. There was no way to even pick it up. I told her, “I thought we agreed to put this on a hamburger bun, I can’t even pick this up to eat it.” She asked, “Do you want me to get you a hamburger bun?” I said, “Please,” and the hamburger bun eventually arrived.
After rebuilding my sandwich on the hamburger bun I noticed that the remoulade sauce, that was to be served “on the side” was missing from the plastic basket that my food arrived in. I would have requested it but at this point I was just angry and did not feel like waiting any longer.
It was just okay, I’ve definitely had better. The fries were so salty that they were almost inedible. At least three of them were so undercooked that the term “gross” comes to mind. I was only able to eat about half of them.
The beverage refill was also slow to arrive. The over-salted fries had driven my thirst level so high, but my cup remained empty for almost ten minutes.
When it was over my bill was almost $16.00, so after the tip I dropped $20.00 on a lunch that was easily below the standard of what one would find at McDonald’s, and at a much lower price. Needless to say I will never go back.
In all fairness, one of the people that I was there with ordered a basket of fried pickles, and one ordered a basked of onion rings as appetizers, and they were very good. The restaurant was clean and the waitress was nice enough. Perhaps if I had ordered a burger with anything other than those under-cooked, over-salted Or-Ida crinkle-cut fries I would have had a better experience.
I’ll give it three stars since everyone else in my party seemed to have enjoyed their meal, the beverages were perfectly carbonated with a perfect mix-ratio, the inside was nice and clean, and the waitress was...
Read moreJuly 14, 2019: Been over 18 months since I was last here…Jefferson’s is a quaint little out-of-the-way spot that serves up good food at a decent price. My server (sadly she never introduced herself) recommended the Sunday special of $8.99 Platters and while I considered oysters I went with the shrimp as this is not a month with an “R” in it. The Shrimp Platter had 10x good sized shrimp fried golden and I selected curly fries and potato salad with the hushpuppies and cocktail sauce. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and tasted “fresh” meaning they did not have the flavor of “old” cooking oil. Shrimp have a tendency of assuming the flavors of the oil they are cooked in…these were delicious. The curly fries were good but the potato salad and the potatoes were a bit mushy. Overall the food was good and the service was solid.
January 2018: Saw the Fried Pickle Burger they advertised on FB so I took my daughter who is a fried pickle fan to try it out. I went with the traditional burger while my granddaughter went with Mac & Cheese. We started with an appetizer – went with the Corn Nuggets. These are delectable, lightly battered fried corn served with honey mustard sauce. I could have consumed a basket all by myself…these are so dang good!!!
The Fried Pickle Burger was smothered in Ranch Dressing and she said it was quite tasty and the fried pickle flavor was good. My burger was cooked well and the grill flavor was very good. The fries were hot and tasty and my granddaughter loved the Mac & Cheese.
Overall a really good lunch, great service, and a reasonable price. The décor/ambiance of the old home is cool…going to have to come back and try the...
Read moreThe food was cold to the touch. The hot dogs were the only thing in the meal that had any warmth to it.
I ordered and was told it would be 20 minutes. Showed up exactly 20 minutes later. It took them maybe 2-3 minutes to retrieve my order and get it to me. I drove 5 minutes down the road and ate. That is not enough time for the entire meal to be as cold as it was. I don’t expect piping hot food for take out but absolutely do not expect it to be cold.
I asked for the peppers and onions to be on the side as I don’t like onions but my partner does. The onions were all over the hot dogs. I scraped them off but the onion taste was still quite prevalent.
I paid $2.99 extra for onion rings with the meal instead of fries and received 5…5 onion rings…and those were cold and falling apart.
$9 for the buffalo chicken dip. They do give you a fair portion for the money. But, this dish was purely cold as if it was never hot in the first place. Additionally, I provided a picture, and you can clearly see color differentiation. The darker stuff was much chewier and dryer. So either it was the top of the pan that had dried out or it was much older. Either way, I don’t feel like I should have been served a dish with such a clear disparity in quality.
The hot dogs, despite not being fully warm, actually tasted pretty good. That earned the 2 stars.
I plan to go back and give them another try in a week or two and eat at the bar. Won’t bother again if it’s more of the...
