I decided to take my family here based on the online reviews. I consider this to be a mistake that will never happen again. Perhaps my expectations were set by the online reviews but good service is to be expected.. period. It started with the hot chocolate. Four cups (2 adult, 2 kids, all the same size, yet different prices), hot chocolate was spilled over the edges of three of them. It was an instant powder that they put in the cup and did NOT mix into the water, instead they poured water over it and left the expectation that we would mix it in (but did not tell us that this was the case so we ended up with semi-chocolatey water and clumps of powder in the bottom). Then they brought our food out in 3 stages. Half of the kids orders, a good few minutes later the adult entrees, then, again, a good few minutes later, the rest of the kids food. One entree was the Greek Plate (Open Gyro on a bed of lettuce and tomatoes). The boneless pork chop had good flavor but was very dry and overcooked. The lamb was actually great. The pita was soggy from sitting on the tomatoes and the lettuce was limp and rubbery from sitting on a plate that they claimed to keep hot in the back to keep food warm longer. When I asked why the lettuce felt like rubber, the waitress explained that it was because of the hot plate and that "they only put the chemicals on the lettuce meant for salad to keep it crisp and fresh"..WHAT! Chemicals?? She took the plate and said she'd have the cook remake the dinner. Instead, 15 minutes later, she brought the plate back, with the same food on it, in the same condition, with the exception of 2 added pieces of lettuce (somewhat less rubbery). When I'd finished the meat from the gyro, she showed up and as she took the plate from me, asked if I was done. I conceded, realizing it was not worth trying to eat it. She then brought our check, no refills on drinks, no further comments on the clear dissatisfaction on our faces. When I went up to pay, I asked for the owners contact info. She gave me a business card and said that I could call tomorrow after 11. She asked what the problem was, I explained the entire course of the meal and everything that frustrated us. She explained again that the hot plate and lack of chemicals on that particular serving of lettuce was the issue, along with the fact that it's not their practice to mix the hot chocolate for us and completely failed to accept any responsibility for the events. She only provided excuse after excuse of why it wasn't their fault. She eventually offered to discount the meal slightly when we continued to ask for a manager that we could call right then and there. She refused to give us anything more than the suggestion to call tomorrow. She continued on with the excuses when finally we decided enough was enough. We would not be paying for the meal. She retorted with "what do you expect me to do!" and handed the card back to us. The hardest part was that I expressed my desire to make a complaint while I was STILL in the restaurant with the manager/owner, but she continued to claim that was not possible. When I asked what she would do in an emergency situation if there is no manager available, she said she'd simply wait until the following day... I know very well, that is not the case. IF it is, this restaurant has bigger problems than their poor service and food. My 8 year old son was observant enough to assume that they were probably going to go out of business soon with that kind of service and an empty restaurant! Obviously, needless to say, we will not be going back for any reason. The previous reviews built an expectation of excellence in quality and service that they in no way actually achieved. I would not recommend this place to anyone I know or anyone reading...
Read moreCooking for the masses presents many difficulties. If your food has too much flavor many people cannot handle it. They need bland food. When the food is too bland there is no amount of salt and pepper that can make it tasty. Based on the food we consumed I would say Anna's aims to please those that prefer bland food.
We ordered french toast with a side of bacon and biscuits and gravy with a side of sausage. When I asked if the b&g came with any meat I was told no. So instead of ordering some eggs I ordered sausage on the side. Turns out the gravy does have sausage in it.
As the b&g were placed on the table I had zero expectation of a good meal. As can be seen in the picture, a single pancake with nothing else on the plate would have had a better presentation. All it would take is placing the biscuits atop each other, slightly askewed, and this dish would look much better. It could have used a little more sausage in the gravy as well.
The flavor and texture of the biscuits were fantastic. They were soft, tender, and delicious. The sausage that I ordered on the side had good flavor. The gravy texture was smooth as could be. That's the end of the goodness. The gravy tasted like flour and skim milk. No amount of salt and pepper could save it.
The bacon was cooked, but super floppy. Fortunately it wasn't bouncy like a trampoline. The french toast was made with eggs and bread. No flavor included. The mouthfeel was great, but it really could have used some seasoning. Maybe some pepper, a little cinnamon, or maybe even vanilla. We were glad that the margarine came on the side instead of on the toast.
In the end, this place is perfect for my parents, or anybody that doesn't love flavorful food. If that is you then please stop in and have a...
