Severely disappointed! I am really only doing this review to give others a "heads up" before spending any significant money here. I don't like giving bad reviews - I really don't - but some things needed to be said for this place. First, on a positive note: they give you a bowl of tortilla chips and a bowl of salsa to munch on prior to your meal, which is pretty much standard in these kinds of places, but as a plus, they also provided a small carafe of extra salsa so you don't have to wait on the waitstaff when you need the inevitable refill. I liked this aspect. However, the rest... My daughter ordered off the adult menu and ordered a burrito for $8.99. I ordered a $13.99 "Burrito Amigos" which boasted of a "large" tortilla filled with the meat filling and smothered in "burrito sauce" with refried beans and rice on the side. For the five-dollar difference I expected a large wet burrito. What did I get? My daughter's $9 burrito - made up EXACTLY the same way, same size, everything, but with a scoop of refried beans and a scoop of rice being the ONLY recognizable difference! And let me be clear, these were no super-terrific beans and rice worthy of a five-dollar upcharge. I truly felt cheated! Five bucks is five bucks, and I have better things to spend it on than a nickel's worth of beans and rice. Additionally, the half-price ($4.50) jumbo strawberry margarita tasted bland and was very unappetizing, and I am a lightweight with alcohol, but felt no noticeable "effect" of the alcohol after this "jumbo" frozen drink. Finally, after seldom seeing our waitress, I went up to pay and proceeded to listen to my waitress and another server have a snarky argument in front of me during the cash-out process. Very unprofessional! I don't think I will be returning to this establishment anytime soon, and probably wouldn't return unless all the other surrounding restaurants were closed and I have not eaten for the better part of a day. Sorry Los Amigos, that's the best I...
Read moreThe only reason I'm giving this restaurant a one star is because it is in fact the worst Mexican restaurant in the area, I'm not saying it's necessarily bad but it's the worst one out of them all, la casa fierro is about 10 minutes away and El tapatio is 5 minutes away definitely choose one of those before you come here, Los amigos isn't cheaper and has no pros that outweigh its cons possibly other than the distance you're traveling to get to the locations, every single time I've ever ordered food here it's been cold when I get it and I'm talking I'm sitting there for 10 minutes waiting for it to take home and I get out to my car and stick my finger in it and it's cold, the ground beef is also extremely bland there's just the slightest saltiness to it there's not even a single hint of any other flavor hardly even salty at all not that it's supposed to be but that's the only flavor profile you will be receiving from the ground beef at this location, the salsa has the consistency of water and tastes like tomato sauce and the beans and rice are equally bland the rice is almost just like plain white rice there's no seasoning or anything it's slightly yellow and there's again just a slight saltiness to it almost like they cook it in with a hamburger or something and just let the grease soak into it which I doubt because it's not greasy but that's just kind of where my mind goes with it comparing the two flavors, everything here is a little bland and for the price I would definitely say go to Taco Bell or la casa fiero or El tapatio which are both amazing and I give both of them five stars with that being said if you feel like driving an extra 20 minutes Arturo's tacos in Grand Haven is the best taco place in the Muskegon and connecting areas hands down but don't go to Los amigos I'm shocked that it's actually owned by an actual authentic Spanish family to be...
Read moreSeptember 2021: I was completely ignored by the bartender during a weekday day lunch. There were 5 people already eating sitting at the bar. He watched me come in and sit down right in front of him, then continued making drinks, looked around, and continued to talk in Spanish to the guys sitting right next to me about shots of alcohol and other random topics for 5 minutes. I won't be back.
Update: I returned December 2021 on a Thursday lunch. I sat at the bar again. There were 2 Caucasian males sitting at the bar, and 5 total tables (all Caucasian) in the restaurant. 3 servers passed me several times. 1 server went behind the bar to take the order of the 2 at the bar. NOT 1 PERSON spoke to me, or acknowledged me. After 5 minutes I expressed my concern to the female manager on duty. I told her this is my 2nd time visiting and having this experience. I said I don't know what the problem is (pointed to my skin), but clearly there is a disconnect. She started to yell and repeat numerous times to drown me out "don't say its your race!!" I'm speaking in a calm tone, and she is yelling. She continues to tell me that the sign on the podium says to wait to be seated. I had already stood there and those same servers looked right at me and said nothing. Rather than apologizing for my wait, or asking if she could take care of me, she is yelling, when I'm speaking calmly to her and expressing my concern for lack of service.
I've spoken to other African-Americans in the community, who have visited and have been ignored at this establishment as well. MKG is too small, with a finite amount of restaurants, for any establishment to risk losing business, especially during a time when restaurants are suffering. No need to EVER patron...
