This 1 star review is specifically for the people booking wedding and events at the lake house, please read!
Let me start off by saying I truly do feel bad writing this, we never wanted to intertwine our wedding with the negativity of this post, but after how we were treated at the lake house we don’t want anyone else to go through this or feel like this on their wedding day
From the very start the event manager Jillene was very helpful planning out our big day and helping manage everything we needed. She assured us that on the day of the wedding her and her team would be working to make sure everything was perfect.
That was until 5 pm THE NIGHT BEFORE OUR WEDDING. Less then 24 hours from The ceremony when Jillene informed us that “due to unforeseen circumstances I have to leave town and won’t be here tomorrow, but Sarah will be able to help you!” We’d never met Sarah
So with less than a day before the ceremony the only person who we’d been in contact with from the venue for the entire year leading up, just abandons us. Now emergencies happen and I understand the world doesn’t stop turning just because I’m getting married. if the replacement Jillene gave us (Sarah) was also an event planner or someone who could manage the task Jillene had left her it would’ve been fine.
Unfortunately, it was not. as it turns out Sarah is not an event planner, she’s a manager at their restaurant and the best jillene could come up with on short notice.
Many things that we had been told would be the venues responsibility ended up, falling directly on the wedding party and family of the bride and groom during the wedding day.
The wheel chairs we’d requested be made available were not ready and then about half of them didn’t work properly.
There were NO SIGNS directing guest where to go to the ceremony or reception. When someone finally got a sign (hand written in sharpie) it said “bletcher” wedding this way. This was the first sign we saw at our reception as a married couple.
We had to ask multiple times for cookies and cupcakes we got for dessert be refilled with more from the back as the staff just watched the table empty.
To top it all off the father to the groom had his non-cancelable and nonrefundable room canceled when he went to check in and it took about a hour on the phone with a manager to sort it out. There was 1 other person besides the bride and groom with the last name Belcher and yes, they cancelled his room.
So to recap. After walking us through the whole process of booking and planning our wedding, the lake houses event manager Jillene, totally abandon us the day before our wedding, and did not leave anybody capable to do all of the things she said “her and her team would do” the only thing her team did was set up tables that morning.
They couldn’t even spell our last name correctly or keep the reservation for the only person sharing the bride and grooms name.
If you are going to book the lake house for your wedding, don’t trust a word out of jillene or...
Read moreWe've been to this restaurant several times. Over the past year and a half I would say the quality of food produced has taken a drastic turn. We went on valentine's day and it was very underwhelming. Our waitress was very kind and helpful and that was the best part of our experience (hence the second star). We ordered their special for the evening which was champagne, starter, 2 entrees and dessert for $100. I was pleasantly surprised by the champagne, it was very tasty (the best part of the meal). We ordered the Tuscan dip as our starter, steak and lobster ravioli as our entrees, and the chocolate cake as dessert. Everything we ordered lacked flavor abundantly. The steak came with a wine sauce that was clumpy, and quite honestly it was more like a weird gravy. The ravioli came deep fried which was not listed in the description. It did say it was toasted, but in my opinion deep fried and toasted are two different techniques. I will give them that one though because maybe it was just my misconception?? Along with the misconstrued cooking method, the ravioli had zero flavor. Couldn't taste the chevre cheese or the lobster that was described because it was overtaken by the breading. The chocolate cake came out looking beautiful but once we took a bite it tasted like a cake you got out of the freezer section at Meijer. It was dry and crumbly and definately not worth the calories. Our waitress offered to get us something different for our food, but we had already waited an hour for our entrees so we decided to bring home what we didn't pick at for our dog. We did end up getting a different dessert though, the strawberry shortcake and that was much better. I wouldn't say it was amazing, but better than everything else we had and it went wonderfully with the champagne. So all in all we paid $140 (after tax and tip) for less than mediocre food, delicious champagne, and a little more than tolerable dessert. My opinion is that this restaurant that has a ton on potential duevto the venue needs to hire a new chef. If we go back to this restaurant it will be a drink on the deck in the summer time for the view of the water and music. The food just isn't...
Read moreWas a bad experience from the beginning, disinterested and not courteous employees answering the phone to reservations I made online not going through, called the restaurant phone number and was connected to the hotel, the person at the hotel starting reading off names of people who had reservations that night..so much for privacy HIPAA and security. When eating the meal the seating was so close that the next table turned around 5 of them in the party and “shared” their political viewpoints that conservatives were better…all in response to a guest from out of town and a lieutenant colonel active in the Air Force mentioned he noticed a lot of Trump signs still up as he was driving here from out of state where he is currently stationed…..who wants to hear another person’s political views during what was supposed to be an enjoyable dinner between a father, son and sons new bride when he hasn’t seen his son in years due to his deployment,.on the snafu with the reservations and the hotel receptionist I pointed out it was the phone number for the restaurant online the receptionist ..yes I got her name didnt even apologize she acted like she could care less….didn’t even let me finish what I was attempting to tell her. Finally got the reservation asked for it to be made special..and it wasn’t I was told the food was better at Russ’s chain restaurant and the price was more reasonable. Menu options left a lot to be desired…meaning very little to choose from and basic. not what I would expect from what is advertised to be one of the best restaurants in Muskegon. In the future I will choose DR. Rolfs restaurant food is better, staff is nicer and prices...
