“Brendyn’s BBQ didn’t just stick the landing; they brisket-bombed my taste buds into orbit.”

TL;DR: Hot honey burnt ends that light up your soul like a backyard fireworks finale. Ribs seasoned with authority. Poppers that balance creamy heat and smoky crunch. Slaw with personality. And banana pudding so divine we finished it before a photo could be taken. Stamp twenty-one, secured.

Stop number four. The East Texas BBQ blitz kept rolling, fueled by smoke, ambition, and just enough belly room to tempt fate. Big D and I had logged two stellar joints already, got turned away at stop three (sold out), and now we were heading into the final leg with hope and hunger in the tank. We arrived at Brendyn’s BBQ just after 3 PM, the kind of timing that lets you stroll in calm but still chase greatness.

One lone customer ahead of us, then we stepped up to the counter. The crew was sharp, friendly, and fully locked into their craft. Once they heard about our road trip and passport stamp quest, the energy kicked up a notch. Pitmaster Brendyn Todd was out, but the pit was in the expert hands of head pitmaster Leanne Perkins, who kept things humming like a well-tuned offset smoker.

We came for the Hot Honey Burnt Ends, and we got them, glistening like gold nuggets in a pool of sweet fire. We added a couple of pork ribs, two bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers stuffed with seasoned cream cheese, a side of slaw (Leanne’s top pick), and a couple slices of white bread to soak up the glory.

The feast: Burnt Ends: Deep char, sticky glaze, buttery texture. These didn’t meet expectations, they body-slammed them through the table. Ribs: Confident seasoning, ideal bite, and a rich smoke profile that lingered just long enough to be polite. Poppers: Balanced heat, rich filling, and that candied bacon crunch made them the sleeper hit of the tray. Slaw: Bright and crisp, with red and green cabbage holding their own in a creamy dressing that didn’t drown the texture.

Then came a surprise worthy of fireworks: the staff brought out banana pudding on the house. No heads-up, no warning. Just layers of fresh banana, silky pudding, and most important of all, the vanilla wafers served on the side, exactly how I like it. I don’t do soggy. If the wafer can’t hold formation, it doesn’t belong on my spoon.

We didn’t bring anything home. My wife told me before we left, “Don’t bring any leftovers home today.” So like a fool, I listened. Terrible decision. That banana pudding was the best I’ve ever eaten. The bowl was cleared before I could even think about a photo. It vanished so fast, it was like we were trying to hide the evidence.

We wrapped it up with a tour of the pits and a photo with Leanne.

Stamp count: 21 down, 29 to go. Final word: This place deserves a detour, a reroute, or a pilgrimage. Whatever it takes.

Dad Sign-off: I told my wife I didn’t bring her any banana pudding. She said, “That’s fine.” That, my friends, is how I knew I’d made a...

A Hidden Gem for BBQ Lovers!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Brendyn's BBQ, and let me tell you, it was an experience I won't soon forget! This locally owned gem exceeded all my expectations and left me craving more.

Firstly, let's talk about the food. I indulged in their loaded Mac, Garebear and jalapeño poppers, and oh boy, it was a game-changer! The mouthwatering BBQ goodness was made in heaven. The flavors were rich, the portions generous, and every bite was a burst of pure bliss. I can confidently say it was the best BBQ I have ever had!

Beyond the incredible food, the atmosphere at Brendyn's BBQ was warm and inviting. The staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate. So passionate, I thought they were the owners, however, they weren’t. They made me feel right at home, and their enthusiasm for their food was contagious.

One thing that sets Brendyn's BBQ apart is their commitment to using locally sourced ingredients. It's refreshing to see a restaurant that values supporting the community and prioritizes quality in their dishes. You can truly taste the difference in every bite.

The restaurant itself has a cozy, rustic charm that adds to the overall experience. Whether you're looking for a casual lunch or a memorable dinner, Brendyn's BBQ is the place to be. The ambiance is perfect for both intimate gatherings and lively celebrations.

If you're a BBQ lover like me, Brendyn's BBQ is an absolute must-visit. Trust me when I say you won't be disappointed. This place is road-trip worthy awesome sauce!!

Deep in East Texas, the college town of Nacogdoches holds a true foodie’s desire: some of the best frickin’ finger lickin’ bbq you’ve ever had!

Locally owned and operated, this smoke house has all the traditional items (ribs, brisket, etc) but then offers regular and daily house specials as well! I stopped here on a work trip and sampled the ribs, poppers, and jalapeño cream corn. It was all delicious! I’ve lived in BBQ lovin’ East Texas for 11 years and this is truly some of the best I’ve had!

Follow their Instagram for regular updates and announcements of what special smoked and savory selection is up for the day and bring your friends!!

Right now drinks are limited to bottled drinks, but a soda fountain is on the way.

Clean environment with good seating, tasteful and themed decor, and classic rock to sweeten the meal. Great staff who obviously love the food they serve and are proud of their employer. Menu items named after local legends and friends give it an extra fun and personal touch and the name sakes might even pop in to eat too!

If you’re local, you already know it’s great (voted best ribs in Nac 3 years running) and if you’re nearby or passing through, it’s worth the...

Came across a little gem of a BBQ spot in Nacogdoches…Brendyn’s BBQ. Walked up to the counter and the lady doing the meat cutting kindly gave me an overview of the menu. I already saw her make a couple of sandwiches and was impressed, she is a skilled meat cutter. I decided on the Omarvelous Brisket Taco and the Carebear sandwich…watching her stack the meat on the Carebear is sheer artistry!!! The taco is delicious and the layer of jalapeño cream corn with a bit of BBQ sauce really makes it special. The Carebear sandwich is stacked with sausage, brisket, and pulled pork…the sandwich is damned near 3” thick and the Brioche bun does a great job holding it all together. Bottom line…for the carnivore in me this sandwich makes the beast very happy! All I added was a drizzle of the BBQ sauce and the flavors of the different layers were excellent. I have to say the brisket was the shining star of the sandwich and was so tender, but the pulled pork and sausage were no slouch either. The food here is great and the service fast and friendly…I can see why “Nac” loves this place!
