Mike’s Barbecue House
This was a pleasurable experience for lunch based on a number of reasons. Great location with ample parking. Very tasty BBQ and a wide menu selection.
My lunch partner and I, for a change, ordered the same menu item. The House Specialty Po-Boy drew my attention. Mention Po-Boy and I will be questioning the item and likely ordering the selection. And wishing and hoping I am not disappointed.
At Mike’s I was not disappointed. The Po-Boy is on similar type French Bread I am constantly in the search for away from my place of birth; New Orleans.
This sandwich consist of chopped Brisket and Sausage. Served in a hefty portion and pleasing to the taste buds; a really good choice here. We both added a side of onions and pickles to Jazz up the meat. Additionally I went with the Cajun Rice. The rice was cooked nicely but this New Orleans boy could have used a higher level of spice. Of course I could always appreciate that higher level of ump almost everywhere I go.
In addition to reasonably priced food is the service. Nacogdoches based on my experience here does not have anything but nice friendly workers in the restaurants. Service is as important as really good food to me. But I must state that the staff at Mike’s Barbecue House is definitely one of the best group of people to prepare and serve your meal.
For all of the above I am going to rate this operation...
Read moreWe ate here for the first time today and I have to say, "Really, is this so hard?" I mean that this place is damn good. It's kind of surprising and disappointing when you go into a Barbeque joint and everything is just not that good. Mike's is good across the board though they were out of pork and I didn't get ribs or dessert. The brisket was nice and tender without gnarly globs of fat. The sausage was damn tasty - next time I go I'm gonna get their sausage po boy. The turkey was solid but I kind of wish that I had gotten ribs instead. The sides we got were all good. The beans had a good smoky/sweet flavor with chunks of brisket in it. The rice was dirty. Cole slaw was minced without too much vinegar or mayo. The potato salad didn't have eggs in it and had the consistency of mashed potatoes - which was pretty damn awesome. There were also pickled tomatoes. I have to say that I was most impressed with the sauce. I can honestly say that I wouldn't change anything about the sauce. It was perfect BBQ sauce. Little sweet, touch more vinegar than most places, little bit of heat, touch of salt, just right. If they had it bottled I would have bought some. All in all a great experience. Mike's is the place other BBQ joints in town have to measure up to. Even though I ate at Mike's this afternoon I'd eat...
Read moreI am visiting Nagadoches for the 1st time. Passed this business on my way to my hotel. Pulled up to the drive through and I got the impression they were closing soon...several people at the window staring as I ordered. They were out of most everything. I ordered the pulled pork, potato salad and blackberry cobbler. I realized I forgot to ask for no barbecue sauce when I gave my order but the young lady was gone. When she returned with my card, I politely said, "is it too late to ask for no barbecue sauce she turned and asked the young men and in unison they shouted "YES" and they all shot me annoyed looks, she then proceeded to lecture me on being prepared and being specific with my order next time. I couldn't have known what the locals know as I am only visiting. It should be the staff's responsibility to ask if a customer wants sauce or not. The food was ok, better than Taco Bell for dinner. I hate bbq sauce so I might have liked it better without the sauce. I was embarrassed by the way I was treated. Just wanted to let the owners know my experience. This is easy to correct. I am not opposed to trying this place if I am ever back in Nagadoches and even editing this review if things improve. We all deserve a...
