1 star because: A) The food is authentic. Authentically bad. Sure, you can get bad food from the 1920s that hasn't been improved upon and if you complain they'll say "you don't get it, it’s authentic!!!” Just because something is authentic to its roots does NOT mean that it's good. LOL. I'm not sure about the rest of their food but the spaghetti was mediocre at best-- the sauce was too heavy and had an acrid, almost burnt taste. It doesn’t help that the menu on their website is just wrong! I ordered food and it was nearly $30 more expensive due to price increases NOT on their website!
B) The service is atrocious. One of the proprietors screwed up my order and had the audacity to tell me it was an issue with how I ordered the food. They then had the gall to state “everybody else orders that,” so therefore I should be happy with that order. IF I ORDER SPECIFIC ITEMS I WANT THOSE SPECIFIC ITEMS! Not some garbage that other people order cause of their own taste or poor judgement.
C) The food is cheap. As in bad quality. Yeah, you can get the lowest prices for "authentic" Italian food in Napa Valley here, but low prices mean low quality. The white bread we received was about the same quality as Walmart, for a little higher price. Why not skip the middle man and go get some actually good bread for $6
I think the old owner used to run a tight ship, based on what friends and family say. But their children and grandchildren have utterly ruined a once good...
Read moreConfusing payment arrangement. You pay for one item at the window and the rest at the liquor store register. They don't tell you the full price over the phone so you are buying way more food than you realize until it's too late. Then you get to the counter and they look confused like-what do you mean you don't want to buy way more food than you thought? The lady tricked my husband on the phone into $40 worth of pot roast he didn't actually order. He thought she was saying "pasta." The pot roast is expensive, so I think that's why. If the food is good, you should not need to confuse your customers. We bought too much but thought it would at least be good based on positive reviews. The food was much too salty, greasy, and mushy. We didn't save the leftovers because the grease made us sick. I know it's a ton of work to run a kitchen, but the food was quite bad. I don't know why the spaghetti was so brown but it did not have the fresh taste of tomatoes and herbs. Authentic food should be better. The man who helped carry the food to the car was very sweet, but we can't recommend the food here and the wierd payment process was down right deceptive. Hopefully this review gives customers a fair warning and this restaurant will improve its food and...
Read moreI've been coming to the restaurant for Over 30 years. I always get the Malfatti. The Sauce is not always consistent in flavor. I ordered some just last night and I noticed the sauce was red in color when usually it's a deep orange. Also notice there was a tad more spice to it not hot but some spice. I could taste a flavor like a chili was put in it of some type. I'm on the fence if it is an improvement or not. But it definitely does not make me not want to return. I give this dish Before & After the changes a solid 4. It is just not something I can order all the time it is amazing to eat but then you get tired of it the next day. I probably order from them a handful of times a year.
I give the service a 2. The daughter that works there is always tooooooo pushy trying to get you to buy other dishes and other things. Last night when I ordered my food she offered me to buy bread 5 different times. She just makes the whole situation feel very awkward sometimes when I'm craving their dish I just don't go in because I don't feel like dealing with her. I have other friends that feel the same and sometimes we take turns going in for each other.
Any negative comments is not to discourage you to go, Just want you to be prepared for...
