My wife and I stopped by this diner for Sunday brunch on recommendation from a friend. We were meeting some friends who hadn't arrived yet so we waited just inside the door. First impression was that the place looked bright, fresh, new, and clean. Sunlight beamed off the polished chrome 50's stools and lit up the room that was covered wall to wall with interesting military memorabilia. Norman Rockwell's Rosie adorned the entrance wall.
The owner, Lynn, immediately walked up, asked our names, introduced himself, and offered us our table. His friendliness felt good, like we've been customers forever. The rest of our party arrived and we all sat in a nice booth along one of the many feet of counter that snakes its way throughout the whole diner. If you like counter service as I do, there will surely be space for you! The sound of 50's tunes were quietly playing in the background which added to the nostalgic diner feel. For lunch hour on Sunday the restaurant was about 75% full.
The server was incredibly friendly and attentive and offered us drinks right away. My wife ordered bacon and cheese grits and I opted for the chilli cheddar omelette and a side of flapjacks. The omelette came baked with melted cheese on top then smothered in chilli, definitely shareable if you aren't starving. It was huge! Due to my keto diet I could not try the flapjacks but my wife said they were delicious.
Her grits were fantastic as well as my omelette. Everything was cooked perfectly. A friend had the burger and fries that looked spectacular. It was a smash burger with crispy edges and a large mound of fries. Another friend had a wrap that also looked very fresh and she said it also was delicious. The coffee came to the table in a carafe so refills are always just a reach away.
During our meal several other servers stopped by to make sure everything was to our liking. As for the cost, it was very comparable to other diners we've visited in the area. It was maybe a dollar or two more than a chain restaurant but the quality of the food far makes up for that.
As we finished our meal I was pleasantly surprised they accepted credit. Since it was a 50's diner I was expecting cash only. But, the staff happily accepted our card.
As we made our way to the exit I stopped to thank Lynn and congratulate him on the great place he opened up. We then headed out but I had to stop and pay respects to the POW/MIA table in the corner. They set up a special table that is always set for service for those heros who never made it home.
I don't normally give a full 5 stars for every rating, but his place checks all the boxes and then some. I felt very good after our brunch and everyone in my party all agreed that we will definitely...
Read moreWe found a gem of a new place to eat. They have only been open for 2 years. You can sit at the counter (so cool) or a table or a booth. The place is so comfortable, lots of room, clean and fresh. The food was fresh, fast, hot and very good. It is like going back in time. Reds and white, fresh flowers, lovely staff and attentive to your needs. Rosie the riveter decor. We met the owner (Lynn who is a Marine Veteran) and he was wonderful, we talked with him and told him we had to comeback as I love Bologna sandwiches and they have them on the menu. If you have ever been in the military you know what SOS is and he is being asked to put it on the menu and it looks like he is going to do it. They were closing in about an hour and he told us to take our time and showed that he had playing cards on the wall and if we wanted to play cards, go ahead, he was going to be there till at least five, make yourself at home and enjoy. One thing in particular that caught my eye that I truly loved is that in the front in the corner on your way out he has a table fully dressed with tablecloth and everything you need with an American flag folded in a case on the table for the fallen servicemen. It was beautiful and very touching. We were also treated by the chef to one of their favorite items. It is like an apple pancake, NO, not just an apple pancake but looks more like grandmas apple pie. The smell, the tons of apples, were out of this world. I do not and will not eat pancakes but this was one of the best things I have ever eaten. I was full but ate almost half of it by myself, I just couldn't stop it was so good. Took the rest of it home and going to warm it up and put a scoop of apple pie ice cream on top. Thank you for a great breakfast, and a place I have to put on my must return list. See you soon and it will be for lunch and you know I will be ordering the...
Read moreWhat a great find! Located in the shopping center still recovering from Dominick's departure years ago, Rosie's Home Cookin' is a bright, clean, friendly eatery where locals gather with friends and family to enjoy delicious comfort food. From the moment you walk in and see the 25-cent rocking horse and old fashioned gumball machines to the table near the exit reserved for America's POW-MIAs, you quickly recognize this place as special.
I like to cook, so when I go out I want to be impressed. It's tough to make an impressive breakfast but Rosie's did the trick on this snowy morning. The eggs over easy were photo quality and the four strips of thick bacon that came with the eggs were served hot -- when was the last time you were served hot bacon on your plate outside of home? And the bacon was cooked tender without being too crispy or fatty. Choice of toast, English muffin or pancakes. I had the stack of pancakes with homemade syrup and the cakes were light but filling.
And don't forget the biscuits and gravy, which this place notes as a specialty. The biscuit was fluffy but hearty, and the gravy had chunks of pork without being too salty or greasy. Highly recommended.
My server was Therese, and from the moment she greeted me at the door to bringing me a pot of decaf at the table because I like a lot of hot coffee with my breakfast, Therese couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. And if all of this I described weren't enough, Rosie's Home Cookin' is owned and operated by veterans. You feel the pride inside.
I look forward to bringing my own friends and family here (particularly those who served) to explore more of the...
