If you like a Chinese buffet/strip mall thing then this is your place. Very small, open kitchen concept so be prepared to cough out your lungs when toss hot peppers on the grill. Super hard metal chairs - still have a wicked old lady aggravated pinched nerve the day after. Server was SO sweet and lovely but the food was honestly bland and institutional . Think plastic cutlery. Overly sauced entrees, tepid soups and even the super fried appetizers fell bland. Some of the sauces were decent given their connection to Lemongrass Thai a few doors down. However, hot mustard was a weird blend of not hot, watered down Dijon. Huh? There is no difference with this place and other small Chinese places in strip malls. I think people want so badly for the old China Town in Green Hills to come back that they are really rallying behind this place despite the fact that there's NO connection and the food is NOTHING like the old China Town. It's just a name they took on. Sorry, but if you're looking for authentic Chinese in the area, we are still lacking that real option. Don't go here if you are expecting to be transported back in time to the old days of China Town Green Hills or if you don't like mall style...
Read moreI have been coming to Nashville for a couple of years now (I am Belgian). Not once have I visited without going out to eat at Chinatown. First of all, the service is excellent. I believe the owners are the two slightly older servers, which says a lot about the commitment with which they run their house. Not every restaurant can say that their owners are willing to serve their clients themselves. Every other employee there is discrete, friendly and helpful. Back home Chinese restaurants often have very similar menus, and the delivery of the menu is done in very similar ways. It's not bad, but it's bland. The first time I was taken to Chinatown by a local, my tastebuds were met with the most amazing flavors of Chinese deliciousness. Every dish is prepared with love and respect for its ingredients. The vegetables are well cooked, but still crispy. The meat is tender and spiced to perfection. The noodles are perfectly seasoned for the best possible "slurping". If you are looking for exquisite traditional Chinese cuisine at a very affordable price, this is the place you should go to. It is amazing, and it will deliver, every...
Read moreAfter reading all the great reviews, I was excited to try this place. I have never been so disappointed!. The staff is friendly, I will give them that, but communication is an issue. It was way more complicated to place an order than it should be because of the language barrier. There was no air conditioning, so the place was sweltering. The serving size was generous, but that is only a good thing if the food is good. I got the lunch special with fried rice, Mongolian Beef and General Tso’s Chicken, and wonton soup. I ordered egg rolls as well. The food had two flavor levels, none and burnt. The wonton soup tasted like someone dumped a bottle of sesame oil in it. Hands down the worst wonton soup I have ever had. The egg rolls and fried rice were flavorless. The Mongolian Beef tasted like burnt oil. As for the General Tao’s Chicken, I have had better from a buffet…. And that is sad. For everyone who says this is the best Chinese food in Nashville, I have to wonder where else you have eaten. Try China Cottage in Madison if you want truly great Chinese food. I struggled to give this...
