On Saturday, my friend and I took one of our periodic Nashville days and stopped into Curry Boys BBQ (East Nashville). Texas meets Asia, and they really get along. It's an excellent pairing. I already want to go back. And I'm not what it would call a BBQ person. I don't pick BBQ out of an offering lineup; it usually falls flat in the flavor world for me.
For drinks, we ordered the house lemonade. I'm sorry I don't remember the full description, but suffice it to say that it was absolutely delicious and not overly sweet. I'd order it again for sure.
We started with a half rack of Lemongrass BBQ basted ribs, and they were seriously the best ribs I've EVER had. E-V-E-R. Seriously. They were juicy and fall off the bone but also packed with flavor. The little cup of sauce you get with the rice on the side is vinegary and robust with spice and oomph that makes you want to dump it on everything.
The missing link was probably the least favorite on the table until we dumped some of that sauce in it. This dish, however, shouldn't be bypassed. It has subtle flavor and seems like the perfect segue between BBQ and curry for the newly adventurous. The sauce was great with the noodles and the sausage.
The green curry potato salad was everything we wanted it to be. Perfectly creamy but not pulverized. Excellent balance of what your American brain calls potato salad and the beauty of green curry. We mentioned the need to try to recreate it. We can only hope to get 3/4 of the way there.
The Thai Green Salad was the freshness we needed to balance the rest of the meal, and it fit the bill completely. We both totally missed the mention of apples on the menu and were completely surprised and delighted when we got a bite with one. Unexpected joy in that fresh bowl (and it's a great size, too).
It's one of the order at the counter situations, but don't think you won't get great service. On more than one occasion, we were checked on (and obviously sang praises of the food). We even got some extra sauce and spice. Dirty dishes removed.
The space is cute as hell, guys. It's pink and red and cowboy and the combination would have seemed silly if you'd told me ahead of time. It's wild and crazy but feels cozy and inviting.
I loved this place,...
Read moreMy wife and I had been eagerly anticipating the opening of this much-buzzed-about Thai–Texas fusion restaurant in East Nashville ever since the announcement hit social media. After several drive-by attempts in March—each thwarted by long weekend lines—we finally made our visit on a recent sunny afternoon.
We arrived around 12:30 PM to a bustling yet manageable crowd, and were pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately without a wait.
Drinks & Dining Highlights:
Thai Lager: The Thai Lager was a crisp, refreshing opener—clean and light with familiar notes reminiscent of a cross between Stella and Corona. It paired effortlessly with the warmer weather and made for a laid-back weekend sip.
Brisket Smoke Show: This signature dish was a standout. We opted to substitute jasmine rice for egg noodles, which, while cooked well, lacked a bit of personality on their own. However, the true star was the green curry: fragrant, perfectly balanced with a gentle heat, and not overly salty. The vegetables—potatoes and carrots—were tender without being mushy, lending substance and warmth to the dish. The brisket itself was masterfully prepared: smoked to tender perfection, richly flavored, and remarkably not overshadowed by the bold curry. A thoughtful fusion of Southern smokehouse tradition and Thai complexity. Highly recommended.
Ube Cheesecake: The ube cheesecake was a revelation. Deep taro flavor, velvety-smooth texture, and a sweetness that struck just the right chord. The nut cream topping added a welcome layer of crunch and contrast. It’s rare to find a dessert that’s both comforting and intriguing—this one delivered on both fronts. Another must-try.
Every dish hit its mark, and the thoughtful fusion of flavors felt both inventive and grounded. The atmosphere was relaxed yet vibrant, making it an ideal weekend lunch spot for gatherings with friends or family. We’ll absolutely be returning—there’s much more on the menu we’re...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went in for the first time today, we've been wanting to go since they opened. Even though it was clearly busy, we were able to order and sit within 10 minutes, and the food came out quickly. The staff were super kind and helpful, but they were also quick about everything from turning over tables to providing to go boxes (because you'll want to take to-go even 3 bites left so you can have it again later).
To be honest I'm a bit of a food snob, and both myself and my significant other after the first bite both sat back and laughed because the concept is so simple, so well executed, and and so unique that it made us pause. We ordered the pulled pork nachos, the brisket smoke show, and the tony porker.
All 3 were delicious in their own right, but we also saw several people get the cheesecake (which looked meticulous and delicious), and the vibe was the cherry on top. All manner of people, groups, ages. I heard several times from surrounding tables "that's exactly what I needed," and I can't disagree. My first thought was that I needed to bring my foodie mom there.
Well be back and when we inevitably move away from nashville, I hope Curry Boys is a staple we can go to every time we visit. 13/10...
