I don’t know, I just don’t think this place is for me. The atmosphere is actually so nice, with a super clean and modern feel but the food feels like it’s trying to be top notch fancy dancy food without the quality. I get having imported ingredients and having labels where you get everything from different states, local areas, etc, and trying to seem chic, but it’s just not there for me. The Caesar salad was actually what we originally came here for, so of course we got that. For me, it was SO lemony, I could not believe how jam packed it was with lemon flavor, to the point that the salad is very sour. The table next to us (4 gals) also got the salad after seeing ours and they immediately agreed that the lemon was way overdone here. After trying to scrape off some of the zest, the dressing was really good and the cheese was outstanding. Without the lemon over board I really think this could easily be a favorite salad. We also got the focaccia and dip appetizer too and I was literally gobsmacked to see the huge tub of dip and the ONE slice of bread cut into 3 pieces… can we please BFFR. This is a main reason the food feels gimmicky and trying to be one of those fancy restaurants where you’re getting itty bitty portions for crazy amounts of money. I asked for an additional side of bread… again they brought out ONE slice of bread cut into 3 pieces… girl 😭. The bread wasn’t even enough for half of the dip. For the main event, the pizza, the waitress introduced it as “personal pies,” then proceeded to tell us their new special… a $30 pizza. I’m sorry, you have lost your literal mind. I don’t care if your peaches are imported from Greece, $30 for a personal pizza is wild. Speaking of the pizza, we had such a weird interaction where we asked for the margarita with added pepperonis and the waitress tried to get us to do another pizza, and she stated “it’s the same thing, just has totally different ingredients,” like no thank you- we want the pizza we’re asking for… with pepperoni added. The pizza also took so long to come out- there is technically free parking but you have a one hour time limit to eat before you have to pay for parking, and we almost elapsed our time just waiting for our food to come out. Once it came out, the thing was DRENCHED in grease. Literally pooling off of it. With the paper thin bottom, the pizza was falling apart. The waitress had said that the pizza is meant to be cooked like this and they purposefully drench it in oil (probably imported for peak fancy,) to get that real Sicilian feel… again… please BFFR. Your prices are outrageous, bottled lukewarm tap water, menu is a weird mashup of half-fancy items… this is such a Nashville tourist trap. Awkward interactions and the whole “if you don’t get it, you’re not rich enough”...
Read moreSho is serving wood fired brick oven pizza inspired by Japanese flavors. That said there is a strong southern influence on the menu as well. This is a new Sean Brock concept and the attention to detail and passion for ingredients that he typically infuses into his projects shows through here. I won't complain about the long waits for a table that will settle eventually and the staff seems to manage the volume well. The issue is the stratospheric price tag for this pizza. 24 to 30 dollars currently. This is a pizza that might feed two people if they are only feeling snackish. If you are hungry it's at best a personal pan pizza. Sure it's European flour fermented for days and it's locally sourced veggies and beef pepperoni from the finest cows. I'm guessing 99% of customers are not noticing any of this. You're not getting a break on the apps or salads either, $14 for an admittedly delicious ceaser more for bruschetta the tuna runs you the cost of a pizza and is even smaller. Cocktails at $15. On top of this you have to cut your own pizza with a dull pair of scissors and if you are at a crowded table this quickly becomes a chore of balancing and cutting while everyone puts their hands all over every slice trying to stabilize it. As for the flavors of the pizza the crust is fluffy. The rest can be pretty overpowering. The southern one with smokey onion as its base was just plain hard to get through overpowered by that smoke. The Sho special was much better but again thirty bucks. You can pay the same price at Pinky Ring for a pizza that will easily feed 4 or more and has great unique flavors and locally sourced ingredients. Or go to Desano where you can pay HALF The price for the same style of pizza cooked in the same type of oven with excellent ingredients including imported flour as well. Bottom line the people are nice the place is cool but we really should not be tolerating these absolutely bonkers prices. It's not LA despite everyone eating there probably being...
Read moreI want to share some very personal information along with my review. (Hate to say review, I’m no critic, but first here) Most is copied from my social media page with some editing. My wife and I visited Sho Pizza Bar while on a road trip from upstate NY to Nashville. It was part of our 40th anniversary celebration. I should add which may explain a bit from below. I am in palliative care with hospice knocking on the door. This was our last road trip. It’s extremely unlikely I will see our 41th anniversary. During our many years together we have crisscrossed the country with our three children, often just to have a restaurant as our final destination. I worked in the industry and I always wished to show my support even after becoming disabled. I wish our children was with us on this final trip visiting Sho Pizza Bar and Locust among others. But I recognized driving down here the difference then other trips. How bad I felt this time. As we stopped in rest areas at 3:am (countless stops) I could feel the Reaper next to me as I pulled my legs back into the car. I don’t want to die. But this restaurant reminded me once again how important making memories are. It gives me just a little more fight knowing I don’t want this to end. It was more than just food. When you end up taking selfies with your server it’s usually more than just food. We will remember this one. I haven’t given much information about the food, environment, service, in this review. Pizza was top three I ever ate. Our server was the most professional there is. Her recommendations were on point, she truly made our experience memorable. Wish I remembered her name. We even took a selfie with her at the end of our meal. What I hope more then anything those take away from my words are that Sho Pizza Bar has soul! If you know my meaning you know. In a time when folks flock to the newest and hottest restaurant of the month soul is a rarity. Sho...
