First time! I'm a stickler for good customer service when it comes to patronizing any business. As I seemingly had a hard time getting through the door (I had a bulky stroller), once I turned around both of the women who were behind the "line" just looked at me. There was not a greeting or smile. I proceeded to the menu to check for the sides and was ready to order so I stood there. Still hadn't been acknowledged. A gentleman came in as I was waiting to order and the woman immediately asked him for his order. 😐! I patiently waited (although bothered and disappointed at this point). She finally asked for my order. Then she immediately acknowledged the next person. Three boxes came from the back. She let them sit for a while after she gave the man his sides. She checked the remaining boxes and yelled for another pork chop. I knew that fried chicken was in one, but I figured maybe it was a call in order since she didn't say anything to me and just left the box there. Maybe 2 minutes later she asked me what I would like for my sides. I almost walked out at that point because I thought all of that was just unacceptable. It was if she was waiting for the woman's order to be complete before she even attempted to finish my order. The cashier, however, was much more friendly. She asked if I'd like a frequent guest card, but I declined. I was going to review them before even eating my food, but I wanted to give a fair review that included customer service and the quality of the food. Customer service, obviously, lacks a lot to be desired. The food, however, was quite good. The turnip greens with turkey was awesome! Great portion. The fried white meat chicken was juicy, huge, and fried perfectly. I didn't get to eat it all. I wasn't too fond of the mac and cheese as it was too creamy for my liking. The cornbread was a-MAZING! If I ever do decide to go back, I'll get extra cornbread. As of now, I don't see myself going back...
Read moreFirst let me say that I consider myself a connoisseur of Home Cooking, Southern & Soul Food style fare. It's my favorite style of food. After visiting some other local home cooking places I thought I would try Doll's. My personal experience was not memorable. First the tiny dread lock man replacing large pans of food was not wearing a mask and constantly talking over the food. Dang Yuck$&!@!!! It is a fact that when we speak or even just breath that miniscule size saliva droplets are spread into the air. The marshmallow topped sweet potatoes were flavorful and the hot water cornbread biscuit thang was wonderful like I grew up on. However the nothing special fried chicken was on the hard dry side and the salty strange tangy turnip greens were inedible. Portion size is good and the customer service is just okay. Overall I give Doll"s a one and a half rating due to the no-flavor dry chicken and the employee with no mask. Covid or no covid, please protect the food and your customers. ...
Read moreWe stopped in for lunch before we hit the road headed back to Illinois, and boy was this the right move. It's a cozy little spot where after you enter, you order and pay at a main station which resembles a cafeteria setup. The staff was friendly and courteous while taking our order, and asked if we needed any special accomodations, which we did not. I really enjoyed their southern hospitality, but I'm also a firm believer in being hospitable regardless of where you're from and they likely recognized and matched my attitude. Do unto others as you would have them do to you I always say.
If you love soul food, or if you've never tried soul food, this is the spot! Meatloaf, beef tips, fried chicken, pork chops, collared greens, mashed taters, Mac and cheese, just to name a handful of options, and everything is made fresh by wonderful folks who take pride in their cooking. 50/10 I will be back, thank you for filling my belly with delightful...
