I've tried several Mexican restaurants in and around Nashville, and this was the worst one I've eaten at to date. Yesterday was my first time eating at Don Julio. First, let's start with my server. I wish I knew her name. She didn't greet me or anyone else during the time I was there. When I asked about seasoning, she actually huffed as if it was an inconvenience for me to ask that my meal be a bit spicy. I had to ask for silverware and the drink menu. She checked on me 1 time during my stay at the restaurant. I left her a $2.00 tip, and she actually didn't deserve even that small tip based on her attitude and service. Second, let's discuss the food. My salsa wasn't fresh and even tasted a bit sour. I had chicken, shrimp and steak fajitas. I've honestly cooked better fajitas at home. This was the most bland and most tasteless Mexican food I've ever eaten at a restaurant in the Nashville area. It was so watered down. Eating at Don Julio's was absolutely a waste of my time and money. What a totally disappointing experience! In no way would I ever return to or recommend...
Read moreMediocre salsa. I ordered chile rellenos with rice and refried beans. The rellenos were old and the sauce was as dark as shoe leather. The cheese on top and inside the poblano peppers was rubbery squares. Absolutely the worst rellenos I've ever tried to eat. The beans and rice were good, so I ate only those after trying two bites of the rellenos. I asked to only pay for the rice and beans. A man came and sat down beside my friend, mostly talking with her trying to get me to eat the rellenos or take them home and give them to someone. He mentioned that it had been made on Tuesday, so this was the third day of serving it!!! He finally offered to let me pay half. He said people eat, then complain and don't want to pay. I could NOT eat the food so that wasn't a...
Read moreWe are new to the area, and this was our first major attempt at eating out. We stopped at 2 Chinese buffets, because my son wanted Chinese. And my God, they were atrocious! Overpriced, unsanitary, and sticky.
We finally decided to try Mexican, and lo, Don Julio was right there.
We were met by a very courteous dude. He even asked how our day was, and i told him this story.
The food for my son was excellent(chicken quesadilla). My mojarra was dry, it was cooked extra crispy....which is fine for a Tuesday i guess. Beer selection is adequate.
Grateful for what seems like a safe haven in a wilderness of food born illness options.
Overall, I'm satisfied. I'm glad we did not choose to pay $15 each at the hibachi down the road, which had 2hr old food, with...
