So, this is a bit of a all over the place experience...We arrived with 4 people for dinner a little after 5PM on a Monday. The restaurant was empty, so we were greeted and sat almost immediately. This was great!
We got drinks, chips n salsa fairly quickly and then the cheese dip. The chips were light and crispy, but not hot. 1/3 of the basket was just tiny nibbles...not good for dipping in salsa or queso! The Salsa was quite spicy, no explanation...hot, mild etc. Just one option...actually we got chips n salsa first and then burning lips hoping a drink would come soon.
We went thru the chips, drank our drinks...still had dips...no drink refills, no chip refill to eat our purchased queso dip. We wait, wait, wait...no one comes to check, as we are the only table in this section. Then, finally some food starts to come. We get the opportunity to ask for chip and drink refill. The server when he comes by is trying to be funny, but doesn't speak much English.
The Veggie Quesadilla plate that my sister had was great, especially when she stole the guac from my Mom's Chimichanga dinner. Mom was happy with her dinner. Hubby had 3 enchilada dinner, beef chicken and cheese. All were flavorful. The Cheese was his favorite, and the chicken was a bit dry. Unfortunately, my shrimp street tacos were quite awful!
I was asked what toppings I wanted...a little confused, what do they come with...well you can have onions and Cilantro. Ok, that sounds great! Well everyone elses food came out, after waiting a very long time...no food for me. Then my 3 shrimp tacos came out, but no side of rice. The tacos had 3 shrimp chopped in half, cooked to death...dense, hard and crunchy...no seasoning, no sauce and some raw onions and tons of chopped cilantro...that was it, overcooked, extremely dry, tasteless shrimp, no sauce, not even a wedge of lime for taste!
There was no followup or checking with us after we finally got our food. We had no service, we were ready for to go boxes and the check...no one came around for about 30 min...tried signalling to the server, the busser...no one EVER looked our way 🙄
So, good first service, but horrible followup at table side. Some dishes presented well and tasty, others horrible! No followup at the table side for refills, check on dish quality or even to being the bill so that you can...
Read moreAs someone who goes to a lot of Mexican food places and trucks, I can say with authority that this is a "standard" American Mexican restaurant. It has the usual good complimentary salsa and chips followed by the usual somewhat bland typical meal offerings. If you prefer Mexican food with chef-inspired flair, it's not for you. Trucks typically have more interesting, tastier fare than you'll find here. BUT... if you want to feed a family that isn't big on new flavors and spicy foods, and you want to do that without paying a lot, it's perfect. My 7-year-old tried the burger and fries; as you might expect, they weren't awesome, but at least they are offered, as are chicken nuggets, so if you have someone with you who dislikes all Mexican food they still have food options.
The staff were friendly and attentive, and had hustle. The outdoor seating area was large, casual and inviting, and though it overlooks a parking lot and a fast road in the distance, reminded us of being at the ocean due to the great breeze coming over the porch rail. The breeze swept away my napkin and the wrap for the silverware so that's probably why someone else said it was "dirty" but we found it clean and pleasant.
Two of us ate dinner for less than $20 (no fountain drinks, but added guacamole, which was bland but cheap, possibly they use Florida avocadoes vs. Haas avocadoes. It was still nice to have it for just...
