$50 poorer and one legendary case of food poisoning later, I cannot say that I will be planning my return to Jashan any time soon. It's disappointing to say, as I was incredibly excited when they opened the restaurant only two blocks from my home earlier this year. But after my most recent experience, it seems that it may be a ticking time bomb.
*NOTE: Google reviews have a cap on characters, so unfortunately, I'll have to condense my original review to the Reader's Digest version, but let's talk the highlights.
Two nights ago, I had a reservation at Jashan for 7:15p. Upon entering at 7:10p, there were 10 other people waiting at the host stand with no host in sight. Any time a server or the man who appeared to be the manager, would walk by us, they avoided eye contact for dear life. Ten minutes passed and not a single person acknowledged any of us standing there. (You'd find a more professional welcome at TGI Friday's.) Eventually, I asked one of the servers if anyone had plans on helping us. She looked at me like four-headed dragon, no words to say. But it led to the manager coming over and getting us sat at our table a few minutes later.
After sitting down, our waiter, who seemed scared for his life, greeted us by first saying how busy they were. (Important to note, this is not the world's largest restaurant. A busy Friday should be manageable.) It was 20 minutes before he even took our appetizer order, of which we only ordered two. Now comes the fun part. We waited over an HOUR to receive them, one of which was cold. All the while, we looked on as chaos spiraled throughout the restaurant; customers were waiting endlessly for their food, not one table received all of their meals at the same time, and the whole staff seemed like they had never had a day of training in their life. Perhaps one of the strangest sights was the manager constantly running from back to front with bag after bag of takeout... it appeared as though they were prioritizing Uber Eats orders over the customers who were sitting right in the very restaurant. This was later confirmed by our server. (What restaurant puts to-go orders ahead of tip-paying customers?!)
A few minutes before our starters arrived, our waiter took our main course order. We hesitated to order at all, since it was now well past 8:30pm, and we hadn't even received our apps, but we put the order in for two dishes and a side of naan. Not shockingly, the main courses did not com to the table until 9:50pm. By the time we were finished, we had spent over THREE HOURS in the restaurant for only four dishes.
As the parade of to-go bags continued, I realized we weren't alone in our experience. Every table around us spent more time waiting than eating. And while the food was fine, it should never take 3 hours for a simple dinner service.
Our waiter was apologetic, but nothing was done or offered on behalf of the management. Taking $50-100/pp for a sub-par dining experience with no effort to balance out the bad parts is bad business and doesn't speak much to the professionalism of Jashan.
The real kicker came as we left -- exhausted, by the way, from the marathon of waiting all night. The manager asked, "how was everything?" I replied, "the food was good, but wow--it sure took forever." He then said, "was everything hot?" I said, "yes, for the most part."
"Well, that's all that matters."
I was speechless. No apology, no effort to make the obvious wrong right. If "hot" is the standard you're setting for your restaurant, you've got a problem on your hands. You can get "hot" at McDonald's for $3.99, and you'll have it in 120 seconds. I walked out full, but totally dissatisfied.
The only thing worse than the experience in the restaurant was what followed. The food poisoning. 36 hours of intense nausea and d*arrhea. Perhaps that was the complimentary gift from the management.
Save yourself the time and the money and skip Jashan. With the success of Sindoore, I would have expected it to be a well-oiled machine after 6 months, but it seems all of the parts have...

Amazing Dining Experience at Jashan !
From the moment we stepped into Jashan,we were blown away by the exceptional hospitality that awaited us.
The ambiance was inviting, with elegant decor and soft lighting that set the perfect mood for our evening. We were promptly greeted by the friendly staff and owner Alex and Aki and seated at a cozy table overlooking the beautiful teal blue bar with wooden accents.
Let’s start with drinks as every story start with a glass of drinks and endless fun…. we had the best cinnamon old fashioned even. The menu offered a tantalizing array of options, and each dish we tried was a masterpiece. The flavors were exquisite, and the presentation was simply stunning. We couldn't get enough of the Kung Pao,tossed in Manchurian sauce with beautiful silky roasted peanut gravy. Lamb Birria tacos, Bengali Lobster spiced coconut infused was busting with flavors Seekh Amritsari skewered chicken and lamb cooked to perfection with the right blend of fresh spices. And to top it off Aki’s recommendation Cardamom brownie with Chai ice cream was the best, we could have not ask for a perfect finish for our great culinary experience.
What truly stood out was the impeccable service. Every staff member we interacted with was knowledgeable, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable dining experience.
Despite the upscale atmosphere, we found the pricing to be reasonable for the quality and quantity of food and service provided. It was evident that every detail was carefully curated to offer guests a top-notch dining experience.
I would highly recommend trying the Jashan as it’s coming from a wedding planner who eats Indian food every weekend for living – it's a must-try! And don't miss out on their decadent desserts, they are a sweet conclusion to a perfect meal.
Overall, dining at Jashan was a highlight of our week. We left with full stomachs, happy hearts, and a desire to return soon. This restaurant truly sets the bar high for Indian culinary excellence and hospitality.
If you're looking for a dining destination that exceeds expectations, look no further than Jashan. Our experience was nothing short of five-star...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Nashville. We decided to explore some Indian cuisine and squared down to Jashan. We were quite thrilled initially looking at the ambience of the restaurant. It was 12:30 PM and we (my wife and 2 kids - 10 year old and 1.5 mo old) were not that hungry and accordingly decided to order:- Non Veg Thali Veg quesadilla
The waitress took our order and we were waiting for food to arrive. After 10 mins or so, the same waitress came and asked me what is your son going to eat? Coz we do not allow sharing thali!!!
I was taken aback by her question as its none of her business what me or my family would eat! I didn't loose my temper and told her that we were not that hungry so the above items would be sufficient for our hunger. I also asked her if we can cancel the thaali and order something else. She bluntly told that you can't cancel it now but then you can't share it either and she left.
It was very embarrassing situation and especially the way she approached us. When i checked their menu, it is not mentioned that Thali can't be shared. I am from Atlanta and we keep visiting restaurants and haven't come across such a situation.
Finally, me and my boy finished the quesadilla and we both were happy with the meal portion and my wife alone had to deal with the Thali.
I usually don't put bad review, but i think this ordeal demands one. To the owner of this restaurant, people come to relish food and spend some quality time! Ordering a thaali or any dish should be totally at customer's discretion. If some Menu items are not to be shared, please mention it specifically in your Menu/display, so that the one's who are ordering should know before they order it.
Finally, please groom your staff! They should think twice before approaching with such...
