So, I'm from Texas. Lived in Houston/San Antonio and Austin areas most of my life and I have to say this is probably the worst example of Mexican food I have eaten in a while. The people who rate this restaurant with 3, 4 or 5 stars simply don't have a clue what good food is. For starters the salsa was out of a can. It's said you can always tell how good a Mexican restaurant is going to be by it's salsa, if you are to lazy or can't make salsa from scratch your food isn't going to be much better and unfortunately this proved to be true with Las Maracas. We ordered the Carne Asada (a grilled flank steak) and Tacos. Basic Mexican 101. The Carne Asada literally came out in 2 minutes. The flank steak was extremely thin, tough and tasteless and had obviously been sitting in water to keep it warm, which also sucks any flavor out of the meat. Usually this steak is served with grilled opinions, a jalapeno and guacamole along with rice and beans. We got diced onions on a bed of shredded lettuce out of a bag. and ,my favorite, cold flour tortillas, Gross!! The taco shells where old and out of a box, they had that tough chewy texture instead of a nice crisp snap, the same shredded lettuce out of a bag. Evidently the restaurant was out of tomatoes that day because the tacos also came with diced onions and a little cheese. we sent the Carne Asada back ate one taco and left to find another restaurant. Truly a horrible dining experience. For the people that rate this place anything higher than a 2 star experience would you please remember that other people actually use the google rating system to judge wether or not they should dine at restaurants. If your in the mood for good Mexican food in a clean environment do your self a favor and pass on Las Maracas,,,we certainly...
Read moreI have been here multiple times in the past and the last time prior to tonight's visit- about 4 months ago. Tonight, I was very disappointed in my food. The menu pricing had changed on my item I love- Costillas de Mexicano, it was 16.99 now it's 19.99. The price is not the issue though, it's how they serve it now. The beef ribs are cut up. Mine were grossly overcooked, like leather, I gave them to my kids to eat, they were ok with them being so over cooked but I didnt get to enjoy my entree.. Another at our table brought the issues with this entree (she also ordered the same) to the employee attention and they brought out a couple more beef ribs for us. This time cooked perfect, but still having to go through all that. Ordered my daughter fries and they came out very dark (for what crinkle cut french fries should be). I did send them back and they were remade much better. I hate to complain about food especially since you never know if the cooks in the back will retaliate. Normally I don't have to send anything back, But tonight made me think that maybe I should just try to find me a new favorite spot. I don't live close. I live thirty minutes away so I was very disappointed. I've also posted a video of what the same order was a few months ago, the difference is night and day. The only difference in tonight's order versus a few months ago was SUPPOSED to be no onions...
Read moreCarlos was our servers name. This review has nothing to do with Las Maracas. We used to live in the area and frequent this location. We knew all of the servers, some of whom still work here. We love this restaurant and always will. We have had children since and both of them are allergic to dairy. We have brought our kids here before and believe it or not Mexican style restaurants are pretty safe for dairy allergies as food is often cooked with oil vs butter. That being said ,we are always very cautious and specific when we order for them at any restaurant, and are reassured. We have had a couple of close calls that we still managed to catch at the table over the years . So I usually double check one more time when food is delivered especially in this instance where it is a dish they have not tried yet. When I confirmed once more with Carlos he scoffed at me and said “yes you told me three or four times” with a smart a grin on his face. To say that it took everything in me not to cause a scene would be an understatement. My wife begged me to let it go and I did. I get it. Most people don’t understand what it’s like to stick an epi-pen in your little girls leg and rush to the hospital over a simple mistake. Carlos did not apologize, continued to be a smart a for the rest of the meal, and clearly found humor in the whole situation. Great...
