SUMMARY. Tucked right above Optimist in Germantown. Incredibly swanky feel with killer old fashioneds. Decadent, cushioned seats give an added elegance to the ambience. Highly recommend.
RESERVATION. I tried making a reservation, but they wouldn't oblige, so: first come, first served. Come early—it's popular and gets crowded quick. You can also try coming right after the happy hour rush, which is what I recommend.
AMBIENCE. Ambience is perfect. It's dimly lit with nice furniture and intimate seating. It's lively enough to not be boring, yet quiet enough to still engage in conversation. Very cozy lounge vibe, as mentioned in another review. Perfect date spot.
LOCATION. Located at the northeast portion of Germantown next to the river. Walking distance to Bearded Iris and just a few blocks from other great Germantown establishments such as Rolf and Daughters and Butchertown Hall. I've always found street parking here, but it sometimes takes a few minutes.
QUALITY. Quality is superlative. Some of the best old fashioneds I've had in Nashville. Up there with Hemingway's, Patterson House, and Fox Bar.
SERVICE. Service was great. Never waited long once seated.
VALUE. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for. I expect to pay a lot at high-end cocktail bars, so as long as the prices aren't exorbitant, I'm not disappointed. I felt prices were right in-line with my expectations for a place of this caliber: expensive, but well worth it.
TAKEAWAYS. Germantown cocktail lounge with cozy, elegant vibes and a great selection of old fashioneds. Do your best to come during a lull (after happy hour, for example), as seating is FCFS, and there are no reservations. I'm sure I'll be...
Read moreThis is not a speakeasy. Whoever decided to call it that has never been to a real speakeasy (I get it, none of us are THAT old), or a place that mimics a speakeasy well (they do exist and this place ain’t it). I can’t honestly rate the food or beverages. The host shamed us for taking a seat when “ummm excuse me, this is not a walk up bar” which wasn’t made very clear until she came over with her dissatisfied tone. We scanned the room, saw an open seat at the bar, and took it. In the 10 minutes we sat there, the bartender made eye contact and could have simply said, “hey, I know there wasn’t a host stand where you walked in, but there is one over there and unfortunately, I think there is a waitlist” or SOMETHING sending us in the right direction. Just really unfortunate. We would have put our name on the waitlist if she hadn’t made us feel like a couple of morons inconveniencing her, but that’s ok. We probably saved a few hundred bucks and plenty of sad calories on what would have surely been a mediocre experience in the loudest “speakeasy” I’ve ever been in. Definitely much better speakeasy bars in town where you don’t have to pay $30 for parking just to be made to feel...
Read moreUsually Le Loup hits some incredible highs and after numerous visits last night was the poorest experience I've had at Le Loup by a mile.
I don't know what happened but after sitting down, our order was taken for some Oysters and a couple of cocktails.
A check came out before our drinks or oysters had been served. One of the drinks was the wrong drink, and our water was taken away wrongly (albeit replaced) The oysters hadn't arrived 45 minutes later Fair play, the server organized a free hamachi yellowtail for us due to the wait on Oysters. Nearly 2 hours after sitting down, our 6 oysters finally came out. We had to rush them for parking reasons.
I don't know what happened, but the server mentioned that they had a new 20 year old in the kitchen as the main person last night. Not sure we need to know that, but Le Loup didn't hit it's usual highs. Such a shame and I hope they get back to 100% as it's usually a...
