Did my research when I was traveling to Nashville to find comparative breweries I would usually frequent at home. Bearded Iris was that place. The location and feel was super comfortable, and their outside space was exactly where I wanted to be. The beers were awesome; hazy IPA’s, amazing sours, all well-balanced. As I’m not at all from the area, I was hoping to try a few off the tap list, but was disappointed to hear they didn’t do flights. The bartender didn’t seem entirely thrilled to be chatting with me about the beers, so I had to ask for tasters and seemed to be bothering him with that request. It was around 4pm on a Wednesday, so it wasn’t packed, and I didn’t think it was an unreasonable request when you’re not offering flights. He instead offered the “small” pour which were not so small when it comes to just wanting to taste different beers. Luckily, where the bartender was lacking in service, I was able to have great conversations with the locals about the beers on taps and which ones would be worth the small pour so I could try a few while I...
Read moreI had a strange experience here last week. I sat with a friend at the bar and enjoyed a couple of beers. We arrived at 9pm. At around 10:30, we asked for our checks. The bartender said it's already been taken care of, as they closed a half hour ago. Ok...that's weird, why didn't anyone say anything to us? They just closed out our tabs and automatically added 20% gratuity as if we left without closing the tabs ourselves. But we were sitting right at the bar in front of their faces the entire time. No last call, no "hey, we're closing, here are your checks." They just did it without consent, and the more I think about it, the more that doesn't sit well with me. Thought you all should know.
EDIT: The owner/manager, who was not there that night, saw my review and reached out to me. He said that was unacceptable, he talked to the barkeep that night about it, and he refunded my and my friend's entire tabs. He went above and beyond to make it right, and I have had no problems since. Love the place and...
Read moreBearded Iris in Germantown was one of my first stops while visiting Nashville for the fist time. Located in a less residential and longer hike from the city center it felt nice to get a break from the busyness of downtown. After trying lots of local beers and visiting other breweries on the trip I can say it was my favorite beer in the city and the only one worthwhile taking home some cans. Their specialty comes in the form of hazy IPAs. While many breweries have hopped on the similar hype train Bearded Iris does stand out near the top tier. They offer many dry hopped single and double IPAs to select from but also other styles were available. The space was fun to drink within, as their whole brewing operation was visible to gaze upon from the manufactured corner pub and one I would definitely...
