I've been eyeing this place since they opened and decided to give it a try for lunch yesterday. I've traveled to Ireland and England and have had authentic fish and chips so I am always hesitant to order them here in the states as the fish is usually greasy and the chips are oftentimes under cooked and soggy.
This place however is the real deal. I decided to try the Cod & Chips since it was my first time and it was spot on. First off, everything was cooked to order, no warming lamps or hotel pans of limp, soggy fish lingering in wait to be unsanctimoniously plucked from their eternal moist and greasy slumber. The fish was delicious, flaky white perfection beneath a golden crispy batter. The chips were hands down the best I have ever had- from anywhere- ever. They were perfectly fried, maybe twice, as they should be, with soft centers and a crisp golden brown exterior. The possible trickle down from the fine dining world is evident in some of the more eclectic menu items and the thoughtful preparations (those chips!).
Working downtown I usually write off most places in the Arcade as merely convenient and often mediocre lunch spots to grab a quick bite but I feel that this place is much more and will be on my destination list for anyone visiting the...
Read moreFirst time eating at this restaurant. Found it on Google maps. Acknowledged when we walked in. Shown the menu and where to order. Inside and outside sitting areas. We sat inside. I ordered fish and chips. My husband ordered the cod fish sandwich with fries. My son ordered chicken tacos. We also ordered shrimp Rangoon. The food was fresh and hot. The fries were too salty for me. My husband liked his fish sandwich. I tried it but it wasn't anything special. My fish had a good taste; however, there was more batter than fish. I was not a fan of the tartar sauce. My son's chicken tacos looked good. They came with cole slaw on top. I don't think he liked the cole slaw. I tasted the cole slaw and it was good. My son brought two of the tacos home and they are still in the fridge. I don’t think he liked them. I didn't like shrimp Rangoon but my husband ate them. The place was clean and atmosphere fine. I wasn't impressed with what I ordered and it really was the only thing that I saw on the menu that I wanted to eat. I eat a pescatarian diet so I'm limited in food choices. Try it for yourself. Read moreWe came for lunch and had the grilled shrimp, calamari, ahi tuna poke bowl, and the grilled fish of the day. The calamari was just whatever, but the grilled "peel-n-eat" shrimp in the vietnamese sauce were incredible! Super tasty, I was ready to drink the residual sauce off the plate. Sadly the poke bowl and grilled fish left something to be desired. There should be a sauce that comes served with the grilled fish, it was a bit bland. And the edamame in the poke bowl were insipid, with not even a sprinkling of salt on them. I think this place has potential, with chefs who clearly know how to make a good dish. Some things just need to be tweaked to make them even better. Also, I know it's hard to control bugs OUTSIDE, but if there is something that could be done about the flies on the patio, that would be nice since they ultimately...
