Honey what can I say that would do this place justice????? This is what I can say 10s across the board and then 10s on top of that! Although a native; I spent quite a bit of time in the DMV and this place could give the area a run for its money. Riddim n Spice you owe me nothing! Plus I discovered you have a brunch, you will see me soon again. I ordered the Large Dark Jerk Chicken. My sides were macaroni, cabbage, and rice and peas. Whoever’s mother gave the recipes, she needs to be honored because there is a special place in heaven for her. The macaroni is slamming, I didn’t even have to add pepper. The cabbage has the right amount of crisp to it, but not to the point you think you’re eating coleslaw, but at the same time enough softness that it’s enjoyable. The rice and peas are fye, you can taste the coconut milk, as if they went to Jamaica and climbed a tree and poured the coconut directly from its source. That jerk chicken, listen to me the young man added the sauce and just a smidge of heat for me, I thought I was in Montego Bay or Negril. Fye!!!!!!! My friends ordered several things as well from the egg rolls to the shrimp tacos and they tore it all up! My friend and her husband had the rum cake and she said it was so good, keep in mind her silly self thought it was cornbread 😂. Her husband cleaned his plate and left nothing but bones that weren’t fit for a dog 😂. His jerk was sauceless, so they do provide options if you are not into the sauce. Now let’s get into the Rum Room! The young ladies up there work hard and are extra sweet! They have a full bar and specialty cocktails. We went on a Saturday, but they do offer a happy hour during the week. If you like rum definitely try the Bad Beach, I had that. I enjoy tequila. I tried the Guavarita, it’s more Rita than Guava fair warning lol. The bar has just about anything you can possibly think and drink of and the bartenders make sure you are satisfied. Music was amazing and they play a mix of genres. The crowd is grown and everyone is there to have a great time. They have security inside and outside so safety is a priority. Parking was decent. Atmosphere on point. Everyone is nice. Riddim n Spice you owe me nothing!

I’ve been a long-time social media follower of Riddim N Spice, but for whatever reason never made my way over there. My wife and I had an appointment nearby, so we stopped in for lunch. The service was great. Being first timers, they graciously took the time to explain the menu options. She got a rice and chicken bowl. She liked it, especially the chicken. It’s legit coal/wood grilled chicken, and they weren’t stingy with it. I got the half chicken plate with plantains, Cuban black beans, and mac & cheese. The chicken was fantastic. However, during future visits, I’ll request they not chop the chicken. I wasn’t crazy about pulling bone fragments of various sizes out of my mouth with each bite. The mac & cheese was was deeeeeelicious. So creamy and so cheesy. I’m still trying to figure out what kind of cheeses they use. I don’t have a lot of experience with plantains, but these may have been the best I’ve had. They were seasoned well and not overly sweet. The Cuban black beans were a bit flat for me, but I think it’s because Calypso spoiled me with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of red onions. OOOOOOOOOH! THE CUCUMBER LIME JUICE! That stuff was fanfreakingtastic! Perfect for this time of year. I immediately began imagining which type of alcohol would be best mixed with it. I could see myself kicked back, sippin’ one or twelve of those on my back porch.

My brother put me on to Riddim a few years ago. Back then, the vibe was great every time I would walk in. The food was delicious too. I’ve brought friends from Georgia here to eat, previously. I recently came back to the city, and we stopped to get food here. I’m not sure if they changed ownership, but everything was off. The guy who took our order(never seen before, but it’s been a couple years), his energy was bland and uninviting. I’ve always ordered their bowl with all of the veggies, but in the past I’ve gotten the rice and peas as the base. This time, I got the trini rice as the base; it had way too much turmeric. I got the regular jerk sauce on my bowl and it was underwhelming, previously I would get the sweeter version which may be the bbq jerk sauce. Previously, I would get most of the veggie toppings to make my veggie bowl, but it’s limited 4 toppings now. I eyed the jackfruit, but decided not to get it because it was the whole pieces. I’m experienced with jackfruit and you must shred it to maximize flavor; it’s not something to just toss in sauce haha. I opted not to set myself up on this visit by adding it. They were out of the cucumber lime drink and the drinks come in bottles instead of cups now. The pikliz was pretty good… Overall, It was not a good experience. I’m sad because I use to enjoy this spot and really looked forward to my visit.

Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted by a bright yet warm decor and the smells of good food. Now the staff, especially the scintillating star of the eatery, Luz, made us feel like we were regulars, made suggestions about the brunch and had a good ol’ kiki with us like we were old friends. We also got a sneak peek into the new bar opening soon.

The cuisine was nothing less than delicious. You could literally taste the pride and love put into each dish for their Sunday Brunch, which I highly recommend you frequent. Our table had the oxtail, jerk chicken (bone in) & waffles and the shrimp and cornmeal. The oxtail was tender, spicy and was just beautiful to behold. The jerk chicken was moist and tender, not dried out at all and the buttermilk waffles crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, like me. And lastly, the shrimp was tender and not overcooked which happens a lot and the cornmeal aka grits, was silky and tasty. I was provided with their own in-house scotch bonnet sauce. It was definitely spicy as it should have been but there was the lovely sweet and acidic note of mango in it that just hit the right spot. I say bottle it up and sell it!

The ambiance of the restaurant is vibrant, inviting and ever so comfortable. The al fresco dining on the patio is wonderful, just as colorful as the inside. Moreover, the place was SPOTLESS. Whenever visiting a new restaurant, that the first encounter we all have and cleanliness is next to hygiene and avoidance of dodgy tummies. I WOULD eat off the floor here. It’s hard to keep such a bright color palette looking fresh and clean and this place definitely does it.

I mean if Guy Fieri promotes this place (they have a sign and an episode to prove it), you must check this place out if you are a lover of Caribbean cuisine. If you like good food, ambiance, charismatic staff and one gulp mango mimosas (I almost treated it as a shot after the first taste), this is your place. Very highly...

Listen up my experience here was a complete 100/100!!! This was my first time coming here (09/17/2024) and I guarantee it will NOT be my last... My coworkers and I came in for lunch and when I tell you that everything that we had was absolutely delicious it truly was!! You can tell that food is authentic as it comes, the gentleman working there really make you feel welcome with the excellent customer service and the fact he gives you a back story on how they got started just really made the experience even better!! I had the Escovitch whole snapper plate with cabbage, plantains and the pepper sauce on the side. I was really impressed with my meal, this was by far the best tasting food I ever had but that cabbage was made with love and spice (seriously) when I tell you every bite tasted better than the last is the absolute best way I can explain it.. oh and the plantains were the sweetest I ever had and was cooked to perfection!! I could go on and on about how good my meal was.. My coworker had the bbq jerk chicken with rice and cabbage, oh that was amazing it's really love at first bite (considering I tried some of their food) ☺️ the rice and peas were cooked to perfection, the chicken was tender and juicy and that sauce was the absolute best!!! My other coworker had the curry vegan meatballs with rice and peas and cabbage.. let me tell you the curry and meatball combination was a great match, it was full of flavor and the curry just enhanced all of the flavors it was truly delicious!! It was an absolutely great experience coming to this restaurant so much so that I'm coming back tomorrow to try the oxtails!!! And I will be leaving another review for that as well!!! So please visit this restaurant I promise you...
